ARDMORE — The Carter County Health Department is confirming the death of a child due to medical complications related to swine flu.

Details of those complications and the name and age of the child were not released Thursday.

The state Health Department has previously confirmed eight deaths — including three children — in Oklahoma related to swine flu. The illness is also known as the H1N1 virus.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says flu activity is widespread in 41 states — including Oklahoma. The CDC has said the swine flu has been most dangerous to children and young adults.

So sorry to hear this.

PARENTS - keep your sick kids HOME from school!! It is NOT fair to other children to send your kids to school sick. How will you feel if your sick snotty coughing feverish little germ caused a fellow classmate to die? It is selfish and irresponsible to send them to school sick.

And.... just because you dose them up on drugs and send them to school doesn't mean they aren't contagious. Besides, those drugs wear off in hours and you have a kid disrupting the class with their horrific cough, or fever that spikes, puking, etc. etc.

Practice just a little common courtesy and keep them HOME!
