This one is about the Square.

First, here is something about disclaimers.

Journalism used to be the objective presentation of news.

Then biased political hacks began to attract big TV ratings, causing competitors to hire somebody even more disgusting.

A degree of bias exists in everybody. If you voted, you played a favorite.

A disclaimer like one of the following would benefit the viewer:

"Good evening, I don't think the president can do much wrong, and now the world news."

"Hi, I can't stand the Cowboys. I am even on the payroll of a competitor. After a break, I'll be back with the rest of the sports."

Here's a disclaimer of sorts.

I have no affiliation with anybody referred to in this piece, no interest, nothing to gain or drop. I shop in all types of stores, local preferred over monster chains, with all malls given their fair shares.

Backward parking: Utica Square couldn't be much better this time of year; I leave room for improvement in the adventure that is looking for a parking place, and the actual act of fitting a vehicle between the lines and up to the curb, not on it.

Built almost 60 years ago, Utica Square is an outdoor shopping center composed mostly of high-end stores and places to eat. Fancy, big-dollar vehicles fully insured to the wipers, this could explain some of more erratic driving maneuvers — what's another ding or dent?

Thanksgiving week through the first of the year, more miles have probably been negotiated in reverse gear in Utica Square, than have been covered forwardly.

Some regulars might have been driving upwards of a century.

Not wishing to sound too cheerful: People in the Square actually DO carry high-stacked boxes of brightly colored Christmas boxes.

People DO stroll, arm in arm.

There ARE big red bows on the old-fashioned light posts.

Potentially ornery children DO AS THEY ARE TOLD, and refrain from stomping the Oz-like flower-garden displays along the pathways.

Traditional Christmas: It's like a Currier and Ives winter portrait come to motion, as much about what's outside the stores as in, where along certain aisles it can get persnickety: What do you mean, you haven't been overseas this year?

It's a throwback holiday atmosphere to most, good as new to first-timers.

A few words of warning: When you see brake lights illuminated, move it.
