OKLAHOMA CITY — The OSSAA had two goals in deciding penalties against the Jenks football program for multiple rule violations: To punish those responsible and to spare those who didn't do anything wrong.

Consequently, the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association's indefinite suspensions of head coach Allan Trimble and assistant coach David Alexander reached the board of directors' limits, but the team avoided a postseason ban that would have punished current players for past mistakes.

Officials called the "severe" penalties some of the strongest in recent memory.

"The concern was when we tried to factor in ... where these violations originated and who was responsible for making sure things stayed clean from the beginning and what our limitations are as to what our involvement can be," said Guthrie Superintendent Terry Simpson, the OSSAA board's vice president.

The board ruled that some of those violations originated with Trimble and Alexander. The OSSAA extended Trimble's semester-long suspension and Alexander's two-game suspension indefinitely and will not review the punishment until June 2010 at the earliest.

Because the board does not have the authority to fire a coach, an indefinite suspension is one of the strongest penalties it can levy. The OSSAA also does not have the authority to punish athletic directors, so sanctions against Tony Dillingham were not discussed.

Dillingham will serve a voluntary, unpaid 15-day suspension this school year. The board accepted the rest of Jenks' self-imposed punishments, including the cancellation of spring football in 2010.

"We just felt like, based on the nature of what has happened here, that they needed to have a hands-off approach on the football program and give them a chance to get some things in place and let the administration do some things," said Ardmore Assistant Superintendent Fredrick Wright, the OSSAA board member who presented the motion to suspend Trimble and Alexander indefinitely. That motion passed unanimously.

But, Wright said, "It could have been worse."

Jenks was placed on warning in July after the board ruled that former player Jarrett Lake was ineligible last season because of residency issues. OSSAA officials said probation was discussed, but the board didn't want to penalize this year's team because of previous misconduct.

"We're talking about violations that occurred during the '07-'08 and during the '08-'09 school year," said OSSAA executive secretary Ed Sheakley. "Some of these kids were still back down in junior high and weren't at the high-school level at that time."

Only one of the seven students mentioned in a local law firm's 44-page investigation of the program is still on the team, according to the report by Rosenstein, Fist & Ringold. Allegations of misconduct dated as far back as 1998, when a booster tried to pay two students, the report said.

No new evidence was presented at the meeting, Sheakley said, but Jenks officials clarified a few of the board's questions. The board's executive session — a private review — lasted for more than 2 1/2 hours, pushing back previously scheduled appointments and filling the office lobby with people waiting to address the board.

"There was a lot of discussion," said Tulsa Public Schools athletic director Stephanie Spring, the OSSAA board's president. "It was a big decision."

And ultimately it was one of the strongest penalties against a program in recent memory, OSSAA board members said.

"It was pretty severe," Simpson said. "I think certainly it was a sign to the people that would have been most responsible for the front line of policing the program."

OSSAA gets money back from Rennels

The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association received the $421,500 repayments from former executive secretary Danny Rennels, OSSAA board member Rocky Burchfield said Wednesday.

Rennels agreed to the repayment when he plead guilty to embezzlement last month.

Rennels had 30 days to pay the restitution.

In addition to the restitution, Rennels was placed on probation for five years, must complete 175 hours of community service and must follow special conditions “for gambling addicted persons.

Records show Rennels admitted he embezzled the money to pay off loans and gambling debts.

Rennels was fired March 9 after allegations of misappropriation of funds surfaced.

Wait a minute...wasn't that the intention?
As I keep saying, the Severity satisfies the
OSSAA and guarantees the safety of the
remaining State coaches, i.e., Enough Blood
Has Been Shed. As Ms. Spring and Mr. Sheakley both said, "examples need to be set...."
But, Ladies and Gentlemen...where are the illusive Recruiter-Scouts hired by Jenks to go into the MiddleSchools/HighSchools...to recruit these young prospects?
Where? Let's get'em. Why can't Tulsa World Sportswriters find them? Why are they given a "free pass" ?
Only 2 reasons:
a. they never existed
b. we feel satisfied and we can all go back
to our homes.

We'll be fine Jenks, the OSSAA could have done alot more.

Besides we all know what bitter ex Jenks player's dad dropped dime on the coach. Because we all know that the other major tulsa high school football program, "outside of their gang problem" is the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

Again, TW writer; please explain how this is harsh to anyone other than Alexander???? No spring football so Trimble will monitor weight and conditioning workouts???? The assistants would handle this anyway, he gets 83K, wife gets 6 K, he does honeydos for Kirby. Wow, does that sound like it's overly harsh to Trimble????

This is from another article published today in the TW and penned by Clifton Adcock and Matt Baker titled "Jenks Coaches Disciplined"

QUOTE

The Tulsa World has requested a copy of Trimble's contract several times since Monday but had yet to receive one from the school district by Wednesday night.

END QUOTE

Doesn't it seem that the Jenks district doesn't want the public to know what's in that contract? It does to me.

Come on, Jenks. The contract is public record. Release the documents. Or is dishonesty a way of life in Jenks?

Jealousy. Bitter parents whose kids couldn't make the team. There ya go...

Jenks does not 'recruit' players. Kids move there because they want to play on a team they can get noticed. If you have a kid who has real talent, are you going to labor away at Hale or East Central (nothing against those schools, just not football meccas), or move to Jenks or Union so your kid may get noticed by OU or a big school?

There are right ways to do that and wrong ways.

If your kid has a ton of talent, you can move to Jenks or Union schools and HOPE he gets noticed. With the depth of talent those schools have...good luck!

Trimble and Alexander have been punished, time to move on. Need to fire them in my opinion though...

East Central is not a Mecca? Are you kidding me? They had 6 or 7 D1's just last year and 3 or 4 more this.

I would almost bet that in Coach Hills time at EC he has put almost if not as many D1's as Jenks in college.

Even if Tulsa (and its' Sportswriters) find a way to eliminate Jenks from all future Athletic-whatever...
the rest of these Football teams will STILL
be sorry.
From then on, it will be a silly bunch of sorry teams playing one another. You Oklahomans have not even a clue as to how far advanced Mr. Trimble's coaching techniques are.
You either got it-or you don't.
As I have previously stated...If the this season's Jenks Team DECIDES to WIN IT ANYWAY...with player#9, or #6...or this coach..or that coach....
None of you will be able to stop them. (They) are that good. At least for this season.
It's up to them!

Dear Jolie2

If you were so interested in the crucifixation of some great coaches...the entire PUBLIC can read all 38 pages of the "public" document you so requested all over every single tv website you want......kotv channel six has the entire pdf file...it is not that hard to find and the school district handed all records over...so now you can read it and focus on something else to hurt our system over

I've spent 10 minutes searching through articles and running searches on KOTV newson6's website looking for that pdf file with Trimble's contract, without success. Would you be a dear and give me a specific article page reference so that I could read it for myself? I'm sure that I'm not the only person here who would be grateful for that information.

This is a joke. This is a slap on the wrist. Paying players, committing fraud by doctoring up phony lease agreements. Trimble is for ever tainted, we will say he won 9 championships, but "remember when he got caught cheating".

He cheated and he should get fired. What if a principal cheated on the EOI test and doctored numbers so his/her school would get a passing grade?

They should be banned from the playoffs. How do we know that no kid on his current team has been recruited or slipped an evelope with $100 in it.

Jenks got caught cheating. And we will always have a doubt, of "did they really win the right way?"

The OSSAA punishment doesn't add much to the self-imposed sanctions. Whether Trimble sits out until the end of the this semester or until June, he still has a chance to coach next year. He could be reinstated right before two-a-days. Everyone needs to forget about recruiting...that is not the biggie. It was payment, forgery, special favors, money from boosters and keeping all of this secret from his administrators. For that last reason alone, Trimble should be dismissed by the school board. Because seriously, if Jenks wins state titles in the future with Trimble leading the way, will anyone think he did it legitimately? Never again. It would be in Jenks' best interests to find another coach and athletic director. And if the administrators and school board has any ethics, I think they know what they need to do.

About that Stephanie Spring - she is also the director of athletics at Tulsa PUblic Schools?

Sorry, but in our opinion, there seems to be a massive CONFLICT of INTEREST there in rendering these harsh penalties? And by her own admission, she considers to be "harsh penalties" and "not the norm".

But, did she or did she not vote to IMPOSE these "harsh" penalties?

Who formulated these penalties? Are they written in black and white based on the violation?

Or does this so called "board" arbitrarily decide on their own, what a penalty should be, for whatever violation they think deserves to be punished? That seems like a recipe for disaster to give them such unfettered powers.

If it were me, I'd hire the best danged pitbull attorney in the country.

Trimble needs to be put on the curb and figure out how to manage his own weight. He will be nothing but a black eye for the Jenks school system. Jenks is exceptionally successful in every area of school academics and athletics. Replacing him should be no problem and a priority to wipe the tarnish that Trimble has endowed them off. He is an extremely large turd in the punchbowl.
