Bo Bowling, a senior wide receiver from Tonkawa, has been suspended from the Oklahoma State football team after felony drug charges were filed against him in Stillwater.

The charges include possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Stillwater police had received information that led them on Sunday to execute a search warrant on Bowling's off-campus residence. Police Capt. Randy Dickerson said officers found more than 100 grams of marijuana, along with a digital scale, plastic bags that contained marijuana residue, an unspecified quantity of alprazolam (a prescription anxiety medication), and more than $1,000 in cash.

Because the 21-year-old Bowling was not arrested during the search, Dickerson said, he was allowed to leave the residence. Before an arrest warrant could be executed, Bowling and his attorney appeared in Payne County District Court on Tuesday.

Bowling pleaded not guilty, and a preliminary hearing has been set for March 2.

"Bo Bowling has been suspended from team activities," said Kevin Klintworth, OSU's assistant athletic director for media relations. "His permanent status with the team will be re-evaluated at a later date, but probably not before the legal process has been completed."

Cowboy coach Mike Gundy did not comment.

A transfer from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, Bowling last season had 10 receptions for 200 yards and two touchdowns. In OSU's 28-24 loss at then-No. 1-ranked Texas, he scored on a 9-yard pass play.

Bowling was classified as a walk-on last season. On Wednesday, OSU officials would not indicate whether he had been given a scholarship since the end of the season.

Todd Graham repeatedly uses one word to describe the single-most important thing required of a recruit: CHARACTER.

I had heard months ago that Bowling was into this stuff. I had also heard he may be into the Juice. I was disappointed in all this, and I hope he gets booted!

Too bad all the way around.

However any other John or Jane Doe on the OSU campus could do the same and it might not make it beyond the student newspaper.

"Among the paraphernalia Bowling possessed was a digital scale"

Do you need a scale to measure beer? I mean, binge drinking is the most popular 'degree' program at OSU, isn't it???

Have that, America (2/11/2009 12:15:31 PM)
since he is coming up on his senior year, maybe he can get the dusty dvoracek "I like to get wasted" redshirt...and if he could keep himself clean for a year, and re-earn a spot on the team, maybe he should be given another chance then.

otherwise...cut him and wish him the best of luck. This kind of behavior isn't acceptable and isn't something that should be allowed on this or any team of any level.

He'll surely be booted...but by all means, let the ignorant jokes continue.

I know there are OSU fans that have made ridiculous comments in light of other school's atheletes and their downfalls.

But let me ask you this: If you called those fans idiots and hypocrites, then what are you?

I love how fans on both sides assume that him dealing meant that he had horrible character in all aspects. How many of the people out their have cheated on their spouses? Do you lie in all contexts? Didn't think so.

While OU may have some recruiting supremacy, there are people who grow up an OSU fan and would actually rather go to OSU. There are players on the OSU roster that could have gone to OU.

Also, that's easy for Todd Graham to say when he doesn't have a great talent that comes with character flaws that he has to turn down. If Todd Graham could have had any of the very talented players that did some horrible things, he probably would have. It's also easier recruiting quality character at a school where athletics don't matter. Let's be honest, athletics just aren't that important at TU, and that may be a good thing.
