Owasso teacher accused of sexual assault surrenders
Doug Woolery

An Owasso High School music teacher who is accused of sexually assaulting a student surrendered to authorities Tuesday night.
Prosecutors had charged Doug Woolery of Owasso earlier Tuesday with one count of sexual battery.
A police affidavit filed in Tulsa County District Court alleges that the teacher fondled a 17-year-old boy twice in one eight-day period during music conventions last year.
Woolery, 39, turned himself in at the Tulsa Jail about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday.
He managed the school’s Performing Arts Center and taught choir and stagecraft at the school. School officials suspended him after the allegations surfaced, the affidavit and Tulsa Police Sgt. Gary Stansill said.
Woolery admitted to the allegations during questioning, the affidavit states.
According to the document, the student alleged that the incidents began Jan. 10, 2008, during an All State jazz convention in Oklahoma City, where Woolery shared a hotel room with the teen. The student told police he awoke during the night to find the teacher fondling and performing oral sex on him, the document states.
The student, who is now 18, told police that a second “unwanted and unsolicited” assault occurred a week later during a trip to Tulsa.
Woolery was staying at the downtown Crowne Plaza Hotel with several students during the All State jazz convention in Tulsa, the affidavit says.
The student told police that Woolery straddled him in bed and fondled him a second time, the document states.
The student told police that he “was in shock and did not know what to do since the defendant was one of his instructors,” the affidavit says.
As he was surrendering at the Tulsa Jail on Tuesday evening, Woolery would not comment but referred questions to his attorney. His bail was set at $2,000, jail records show.

There are probably more students than just the one. The student should have reported this the first time it happen. One more pervert removed from the streets.

This kind of thing makes my blood boil. There needs to be a more meaningful punishment for these sick, demented people who touch children. They need a punishment that changes their life for the worse after all that's what they've done to the children they've molested. The Bible warns: It is better that a millstone be hung around their neck and that they are thrown to the bottom of a river than to harm a child.

Oh my Gosh. This is so hard to believe. I knew this guy, I was in drama and had contact with this guy during school. I can't believe this happened, it's so unlike him.

The atmosphere at Owasso schools is to punish the victim as much or more than the perpetrator. The students are discouraged from going to the administration with complaints. I bet he did complain... thank God he went to the police. There is going to be more news about the administration's lack of control at the schools in Owasso. There was a rape during school hours last week at the Mid-High... per the newspaper's police report in Owasso.

I agree with wyatt, as a former student I wouldn't have thought him to be the type either. Just goes to show that people can be radically different in what they appear to be and what they really are. :(

Shows being educated and being smart does not mean a person does not have a sick mind.they are every where, all around us, and you may even like one and not know it.

I don't know why some of you think that Owasso is such a perfect place. I have lived here for over 20 years and know that it is not perfect. But it is a good place to live.
Just because Woolery admitted to the allegations does not mean he is guilty. It does not say he confessed.
And the student should have said something earlier. The second alleged "incident" should not have had a chance to happen.
I wonder if this is not a kid who all of a sudden has an attack of conscience about something he willingly did. You cannot always blame just the adult in these situations. There are teachers who are pursued by students also.
Wait and see what the evidence is before believing everything you read. It has happened before that the article is incorrect.

Let's not blame the student. We don't have a clue what that child had to deal with. Adults have problems reporting rape. So why do you think it would be easy for a student to report on his teacher and have to deal with being teased by students and adults acting like he was at fault because he should have said something sooner. God forbid those of you without compassion for the young man ever be in a situation like this and have to deal with ridiculous comments from the adults that are suppose to be taking care of our children.

If anyone really thinks people from Owasso believes we are above this type of thing happening in our community, your wrong. These types of situations & crimes happen in every community, large and small. This doesn't necessarily mean they aren't nice places to live.

Skyhawk, you are kidding us, right? This has nothing to do with "public schools." It seems like yesterday that a guy was arrested for molesting kids in a private religious school out South. Get a grip. To the commenters who think it's strange to have an adult chaperone in a hotel room on a high school trip: Do you have any idea what some teenagers do on high school trips when NOT chaperoned? Schools would get sued for some of those outcomes, as well. The schools can't win for losing!
