CHEYENNE — Authorities say a missing western Oklahoma man has been found dead near Pampa, Texas.

Roger Mills County Undersheriff Darren Atha says 74-year-old Sam Hardy of Reydon (RAY'-dun) was found Wednesday afternoon by searchers in a helicopter.

Atha says Hardy was providing security at an oil field when his pickup truck apparently became stuck and he left on foot for help.

being 74 years old and alone in the wilderness could kill anyone who is not used to it.

Visit the area several times a year during quail season. You are a long ways from anywhere out there. Cell reception is VERY spotty in the area, with miles of no service. About 2 miles east of Reydon, there is a small circle of about 20 yards that you get service, get out of that circle and your dead for a couple miles in any direction.
