Two starving horses seized from Pontotoc County home
By Associated Press

FITZHUGH — Authorities have seized what they describe as two starving horses from a home in rural Pontotoc County and the home's owner could be charged with animal cruelty.
Sheriff's Deputy Bryan Denny says when he responded to calls from nearby residents concerned about the welfare of the horses, he discovered the animals were without feed and nibbling at tiny grass chutes in their pen.
Denny later returned and seized the animals from the home of 62-year-old Shirley Belvin. Sheriff John Christian says a veterinarian determined that the horses had no food in them.
Christian says the horses should not require any medical care but do need to eat. He says Belvin told Denny that she tried to feed the horses grain and sometimes let them into the yard.

Was Belvin trying to imply these two horses went on a hunger strike???

Well, I'm glad they were found before their condition worsened.

Morons should not be allowed to own live stock or pets.

As a horse owner I know it can be difficult to take care of your animals when money is tight. It is hard to admit when it is time to let go of a loved animal. I am glad that the neighbors cared enough to get these horses help. If we had more people like them there might be less starving animals.

Only two seized? Wake up and take a drive down hwy 412, hwy 20, any of the roads, main highways, county roads, back roads - you don't even have to get off the main highway to see starving horses! The unfortunate truth is horses are too cheap and people who do not have a clue are buying them and sticking them out back on an acre or two just because they can afford them now. A lot of people do not have an idea what the expenses are in taking care of a horse or a pony. THEY CAN AFFORD THEM at the sale, out of the sales ads and yes and some are even free. Also consider -any mare with a uterus is bred to produce more of the unwanted, uncared for, UN fed animals. Foals are cute even the ugly ones but they do grow up to be the unwanted backyard pets of many who do not have the ability to care for them.

She needs some of the same treatment to learn what it is like. a horse may not be human. but it it still one of gods living and needs to eat the same as a human does.
It saddens me to see any thing living hungry.

Okie,
You make good points, but there are many of us, myself included, who should be hungry a lot more frequently than we are!

I still believe there are many more kind and caring people in this world than there are those who are just the opposite .. I've seen many a post which supports my theory that most people are good people and care about humanity and all of God's creatures .. Godspeed to all of you!
