Correction
This story incorrectly reported the name of a Chickasha teenager who died after swimming at Cooperland Raceway Pond in Payne County on June 26. It has been corrected.

COYLE — Authorities say a Chickasha teenager drowned while swimming in a pond at a raceway near Coyle in Payne County.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 16-year-old Erving Zubiate died at Children's Hospital at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City about 1:45 a.m. Saturday.

The patrol says Zubiate and a couple of friends were at the Cooperland Motorsports Arena pond when the friends noticed he was missing. Troopers say the friends called 911 and bystanders jumped in the water to look for him.

Troopers say a bystander found the teen, who was unconscious and not breathing when he was taken out of the water about 10:05 p.m. Friday.

People at the scene administered CPR on Vuviat until paramedics arrived.
