HOBART (AP) — For the first time in the history of Kiowa County, residents can saddle up to the bar and order a mixed drink.

The Longbranch Saloon in Hobart last week became the first establishment in the county to take advantage of a liquor-by-the-drink proposal approved by county voters last year. Fifty-four percent of voters approved the proposal in November’s general election.

Officials with the Alcoholic Beverage Laws Enforcement Commission say the county is the 49th of 77 Oklahoma counties to approve liquor by the drink.

The 28 other so-called “dry” counties can sell low-point beer or have a license for a “bottle club,” where members can bring their own bottles of alcohol under certain guidelines.

douglassm people want to legislate their own morality because they are weak and are scared they wont be able to abstain the temptation. People will always do what they want. We all profit if we legalize what the do.

I chuckle when I hear someone say low-point beer. Like it can't get you drunk.

You mean "legally" go up to the bar and order a drink. Some of us are old enough to remember when all of Oklahoma was "dry," we had "liquor by the wink," and Oklahomans would continue to vote "dry" for as long as they could stagger up to the polls.

Oh, and its "sidle" up to the bar. Not "saddle."

Clearly, the author knows not enough about bars.

If it's taken this long for Oklahoma to enter into the rest of the world about alchohol, imagine how long it will take if Marijuana is legalized. We'll still have pot smuglers in Ok for years to come.
