Testimony is set to begin Thursday in the trial of a Tulsan who is accused of murdering a 13-year-old girl.

The jury-selection process that began Tuesday concluded Wednesday for the first-degree murder trial of Marquis Bullock, 20.

Fourteen jurors — including two alternates — were picked to hear the case.

Cori Baker disappeared Nov. 9, 2007, after having been seen with Bullock in Tulsa, testimony at a preliminary hearing indicated.

Some of her remains were discovered last year at a paintball course in Creek County. Tulsa County District Judge Clancy Smith on Wednesday denied a motion for a change of venue in the case, which has previously attracted considerable news coverage.

In October 2008, defense attorney Kathy Fry filed a document asserting that the “coverage by newspaper, media from television and the Internet have created a bias in the community” that would deny Bullock a fair trial.

Tulsa County judges typically delay ruling on requests for changes of venue that are based on news coverage and publicity until they hear how prospective jurors respond.

The matter of news coverage and publicity was discussed in the selection process in Bullock’s case, and Smith determined that the trial will proceed in Tulsa County.

In an unrelated murder case in another Tulsa County courtroom, testimony is set to start Thursday in the trial of Isaiah Anthony Jennings, 20, who is charged in the fatal shooting of Michael Dubin.

Dubin, 41, was found dead Aug. 15, 2007, in his Broken Arrow home.
