The National Weather Service said a potent storm system will bring a good chance of precipitation to the state as it moves across the southern Plains.

Some thunderstorms will be strong to severe, the weather service said.

West-central Oklahoma got a taste of things to come late Wednesday as severe thunderstorms developed along a dryline, a boundary between moist and dry airmasses. Some large hail was reported in Beckham County.

Elsewhere, skies were clear to partly cloudy throughout the day.

Temperatures ranged from 80 degrees in Bartlesville and Tulsa to 98 degrees in Guymon in the Oklahoma Panhandle. The mercury peaked at 81 degrees in McAlester, Muskogee and Oklahoma City.

Skies should be partly to mostly cloudy on Thursday, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in central and eastern Oklahoma. Temperatures are expected to range from the 60s in the Panhandle to 70s and 80s elsewhere, according to the weather service.

By Thursday night the most intense storms should move into southeast Oklahoma.

Temperatures should plummet behind a cold front accompanying the system, ranging from the mid-30s in the western Panhandle to the middle 50s in southeast Oklahoma, forecasters said.

Skies are expected to be mostly sunny and clear on Friday, but southwest Oklahoma may see some storms on Saturday. Temperatures are expected to reach the 60s and 70s both days and dip into the 30s and 40s Saturday night.

By Sunday the entire state will have a chance of storms. Temperatures are expected to range from the upper

60s to the low 80s for highs and 40s and 50s for lows Sunday night.

Eastern Oklahoma will have a better chance than the west for storms on Monday, according to the weather service.

Temperatures should reach the 70s and 80s during the day and range from the upper 40s to middle 60s Monday night, forecasters said.

I will take a thunderstorm over an ice storm any day of the month.
