A Sapulpa man with a previous conviction for DUI-related manslaughter was charged Tuesday with first-degree manslaughter linked to a deadly traffic crash.

Prosecutors alleged that Warren Lee Bemo, 48, drove under the influence of intoxicating liquor on Aug. 15 and caused a collision in Glenpool that claimed the life of Megan D. Harrod, 21, of Sasakwa.

Glenpool police reported that Bemo was driving a Pontiac Bonneville north in the southbound lanes of U.S. 75 and collided head-on with a southbound Honda Civic driven by Harrod.

The impact caused her car to collide with another vehicle, police reported.

When interviewed Aug. 16 in a hospital emergency room, Bemo said that “he did not know what happened but did remember drinking about 12 beers at the lake in Okmulgee,” a Glenpool police detective’s affidavit states.

Bemo was arrested Tuesday and is in the Tulsa Jail.

Records show that in January 1992, Bemo received a five-year probation for first-degree manslaughter in Seminole County, said Tulsa County Assistant District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler.

In that case, Bemo was driving “under the influence of intoxicants and was involved in a motor vehicle accident which resulted in the death of a passenger in his vehicle,” states a police affidavit filed in the new Tulsa County case.
