A 1-year-old girl was in critical condition at St. Francis Hospital after a pit bull attacked her Friday at her family's home in the 3400 block of South 149th East Avenue, officials said.
According to police reports, the girl found her way into the backyard while the dog was eating about 5 p.m.
Her mother and grandmother rescued her from the dog's jaws, Tulsa Police Cpl. Mark Groves said.
The child had significant injuries to her face and skull, and she lost a lot of blood, Her family tried to drive her to a hospital, but EMSA spokeswoman Tina Wells said an ambulance met them at 41st Street and 129th East Avenue.
Groves said the child was unconscious when the ambulance reached her and that EMSA medics revived her with CPR.
The girl was in critical condition, she said.
Groves said Animal Control officers took the dog into custody.

But pit bulls always protect their owners and love kids right? These so called parents need to held responsible for this.

this has gone on long enough.
it's always a pit bull- it's time for the animals
to be regarded the same as meth, a good reason to
send owners to prison.

It's beyond me why any right thinking individual would want keep these animals around children. It's passed time for debate, pit bulls should be extinguish.

Sad. I pray this child makes a complete recovery. If this family accepts this dog back after 10 observation, OK, that's fine. But the parents should be put down.

That poor kid. I will never understand why people
will risk keeping a child around that kind of animal. It just isn't worth it.

Oh, this makes me sick, reminds me of that little boy that was mauled so badly a few years back. Prayers she survives and they are able to repair her face nicely.

Parents be responsible, that wouldn't be fair, brats like to be free of self control... I have writen letters to the state, they have more important things to do... these dogs & onwers should be put away. Its sad that if you take your kids or your self to the park, you just might not make out... its there right???? The wrong control from our goverment, this is common sense... but there's none left...

I wonder if the parents will be charged in this...having a pit bull around a 1 year old is pure stupidity.

Why is it that it's ALWAYS the dog's fault? I do not know of ANY incidents of a child being mauled or killed by a dog, of any breed, that the lack of adult supervision was to to blame.
