Larry Teel, 62, was sleeping in a bedroom of a house in the 3700 block of South Sycamore Avenue when the fire started about 6:20 a.m.

Firefighters found Teel, who was not breathing, after the fire was put out, Fire Chief Steve Jarrett said.

Firefighters administered CPR to Teel and were able to restore his pulse. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he died about 6 p.m. Thursday, Jarrett said.

One firefighter injured his back while getting Teel out of the house. He’s expected to return to service soon, Jarrett said.
