By STAFF REPORTS

Last Modified: 11/21/2009 8:41 AM
A Pauls Valley teenager was killed after falling from the tailgate of a vehicle Friday night.
Zane Barnes, 15, was transported to Pauls Valley General Hospital where he died of a head injury, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.
Barnes was riding on the tailgate of a 2004 Chevy Avalanche when he fell and struck his head on a private driveway, the OHP said.
Khini Lee Billings, 17, was driving the vehicle and was not injured. The other passenger, Dillon Rose, 15, was not injured.
The accident happened in Garvin County about a miles west of Interstate 35 and several hundred feet north of State Highway 29.

Same thing happened just the other day here. Girl is in Tulsa in hospital. Fractured skull. I'm thinking this is more common than we think.

Read between the lines, folks. Teenagers, truck, private driveway, night. He didn't just fall off a tailgate, he was bed-surfing and fell out. Or worse, got thrown out.

This was popular in the 1950's when I was a boy. Riding on the tailgate and hood seemed to be the rage.

well, you should be able to do stupid stunts at "15" and get a pass every now and then. However, reality sinks in occasionally. I do feel for the family.

And, parents, you cannot supervise your teens all the time. I do think there may be a case of holding the driver of the vehicle somewhat "liable". He obviously was licensed, and the 15 year old was just goofing off.

nope, Never was dumb enough to put myself in that kind of danger, but then I was raised by very strict parents. I didn't even see my first movie until I was 17 years old. When I was that age, I was playing sports all year round, Not surfing off a tailgate of a pickup truck that may make me a boring individual. But I guess do whatever floats your boat. That is why they have sky diving and other dangerous hobbies.

I did not know the kid that got killed, but I do know the driver. It was just a freak accident! The driver feels really bad...He tried to help him the best he could. He ended up holding him thru his last breath. The driver feels awful over what happen. So people, please lighten up and stop talking bad about the kids if you don't know them or know what happend. Just please keep these familes in your prayers. Thank you.

okay first of all zane went to school at wynnewood. and second, unless you know this kid like we do, you have no right to judge him sayin oh he was prolly bed surfing or people need to watch their kids more. None of you know the real story so grow up and quit saying stupid stuff. he fell off the truck when it went over the cattle guard. he was a very great kid that never got in trouble, and khini and dillon did nothing to harm him. it was AN ACCIDENT. it's nobody's fault. it was just his time to go. God needs him more in heaven than he does on earth. I've never seen that kid sad or upset a day in my life. He was always smiling. he never had a problem with anyone. but ACCIDENTS DO HAPPEN. just because some of you made bad mistakes when you were young that you regret today, doesn't mean that your kids are goin to do it. so open up your eyes. you may learn something.

Raney22. I have suspected that you must have led a sheltered life due to questions you have asked. I'm not being critical, as there isn't anything wrong with that. Many of us are older than you and we sought out a different ways to relieve our boredom.
We didn't have computers, cell phones, Ipods, or even television during my wonder years.
