A man was killed Monday when his pickup was hit by another pickup that was trying to pass another vehicle in the morning fog, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

Johnny Leemaster, 54, of Choctaw was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 9:30 a.m. Monday in Lincoln County.

Troopers said Justin Colley, 22, of Stillwater, who was driving a 2007 Ford pickup on U.S. 177 south of Oklahoma 66, had tried to pass another southbound vehicle without sufficient clearance. As Leemaster’s northbound pickup approached, both pickups swerved to the east to avoid a head-on collision.

Colley’s pickup struck Leemaster’s 1985 Dodge pickup in the driver’s side door, the OHP reported. Both men were wearing seat belts, but Leemaster was partially ejected, troopers said.

Colley was treated at an area hospital and released.
