OWASSO — A Rogers County sheriff’s deputy was all ears Tuesday morning when he intercepted a phone call from a man who threatened to blow up a mental facility.

The deputy was investigating a series of bomb threats at the Grand Lake Mental Health Center when Joel Levan Deubler, 50, called about 10 a.m.

Sheriff Scott Walton said that when the deputy answered the phone, Deubler began swearing and threatened to blow up the clinic with plastic explosives.

After listening to the threats, authorities prepared an arrest warrant and went to an Owasso apartment the man frequented, Walton said.

A relative told deputies that Deubler wasn’t home, but he peeked out from a hallway door as they investigated. He was arrested after a brief scuffle, Walton said.

Prosecutors filed a felony charge of making a telephone bomb threat, and Deubler is being held on $100,000 bail, court records indicate.

There was no bomb at the clinic and no indications that Deubler had access to explosives, Walton said.

Administrators at the mental facility declined to comment.
