Skiatook audit not expected very soon
The school probe is at least a month away.

SKIATOOK — A state Auditor and Inspector's Office probe of Skiatook Public Schools requested by the Attorney General's Office likely will take at least another month to complete, officials said.
The audit, requested in February by First Assistant Attorney General Tom Gruber, is a probe for criminal and other misconduct related to financial and inventory matters at the school district, according to a letter to the Auditor's Office from Gruber.
Once the audit is complete, it will be sent to the Attorney General's Office for review, and criminal charges could follow if the audit reveals misconduct, said Charlie Price, a spokesman for the Attorney General's Office. At that point, the audit would become public.
The probe stemmed from a complaint the Attorney General's Office received about the school, Price said.
"We received a complaint, we reviewed it and thought the complaint contained information that warranted the state auditor taking a look," he said.
The specific allegations in the complaint have not been made public, he said.
Gruber wrote, "Because this involves an investigationwhich could result in criminal charges being filed, this audit and its results are to be kept confidential until the investigation has been completed."
The audit should be completed in about a month, said Terri Watkins, spokeswoman for the state Auditor and Inspector's Office.
Skiatook Superintendent Gary Johnson could not be reached for comment Friday.

Looks like someone's had their hand in the cookie jar. You would think from the number of embezzlement cases we have seen with schools, cities that Administrators would get a clue and create better checks and balances before it happens to them. They cannot afford these losses.

You might see some quick retirements in the next week or two. To get that retirement locked in before it can be confiscated. They'll need that for the commissary.

Now would be a good time to consider consolidating public schools. For instance, Sperry Public Schools is looking for a new Superintendent, but this school system could easily be absorbed by Skiatook, Owasso, or Tulsa. There is no reason to pay another Superintendent to oversee such a small school district, and pay for the additional Administration. The school could still have its identity, keep its same school mascot, but be administered by another Educational Service Center. Maybe if we cut some of these Administrative costs statewide and provide better benefits for the Educational Employees.
