Four Republicans have served notice that they wish to succeed Senate President Pro Tem Glenn Coffee, R-Oklahoma City, who is serving his final term in the Senate and can't seek re-election.

The candidates for the position, which will become vacant in 2011, are Sens. Brian Crain, R-Tulsa; Brian Bingman, R-Sapulpa; Harry Coates, R-Seminole; and Cliff Aldridge, R-Midwest City.

The election for president pro tem designate will take place during the first week of next year's legislative session.

Republicans have a 26-22 majority in the Senate.

Beer Summit scheduled: Tulsa's Young Professionals (TYPros) and other sponsors have organized a Beer Summit & Political Meet-And-Greet where people can interact with candidates for mayor and City Council in a laid-back environment.

The event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Flytrap Music Hall, 514 E. Second St.

Admission is free, but a cash bar will be on the premises. Marshall Brewing Co. will offer one free sample of its local beer to each guest 21 and older. Travis Fite will provide live music.

Young voters are being encouraged to come to the event and ask questions they consider important to their generation.

Republican Women officers chosen: Debra Henley of Sapulpa was elected the president of the Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women during its biennial convention Aug. 7-8 in Edmond.

Linda McCurtain of Jenks was elected the first vice president, and Virginia
Chrisco of Tulsa was voted the recording secretary.
