Carter: Israel needs to withdraw

HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) — Israel must stop building settlements in Palestinian-claimed territory if peace is ever to be achieved in the Middle East, former President Jimmy Carter said Monday night as he received an award at James Madison University for his humanitarian efforts.

"As President Barack Obama has made clear, the key factor that prevents peace is the continuing building of Israeli settlements in Palestine, driven by a determined minority of Israelis who desire to occupy and colonize east Jerusalem and the West Bank," Carter said.

Carter, a Nobel Peace laureate, spoke to a crowd of 6,500 as he and his wife, Rosalynn Carter, received an award from the university's Mahatma Gandhi Center for Global Nonviolence.

Carter, who helped bring peace between Egypt and Israel with the Camp David Accords when he was the president, has maintained a strong interest in the Middle East. He said he has visited the region three times within the past year.

Carter, 84, said he was convinced that withdrawal of Israeli occupying forces will dramatically reduce any threats to Israel. "All 22 Arab countries have offered diplomatic recognition and full trade and commerce if Israel will withdraw from occupied territories," he said.

More like Carter is a barack Hussein obama "parrot".

It would behoove these countries to settle their differences in a Christian manner. LOL!!

Carter is a rabid anti-semite! Removal of Jews from Judea is like removing Londoners from London!
Peace will not come through appeasement of evil (Islam) but though acceptance of International Law (1919 Paris agreement and 1922 Mandate). Creating an apartheid state for Arabs only in the Jewish heartland would be a disaster for the whole world.

Carter is blinded by his hate for Israel. Everytime Israel pulls out of area it used to launch missils at them.

The same old line, criticize Israel and you're antisemitic. They call Jews self hating if they criticize as well. Jimmy Carter gave Israel its only peaceful border with Eqypt and Israel has started the last three conflicts.

I did not support the 1948 proposal that gave 10% of the landowners, the Jews, 50% of the land. In a country like ours where we value private property, why do we accept land being stolen from the deed holders?

I did support our aid in 1973 to Israel, but that was more between us and the soviets.

These settlements all go beyond the 1967 borders and so do the barrier walls. Nightly these Israeli settlers target Palestinian crops and when the Palestinians react, the settlers call in the army.

Israel is trading security for land and expansion over peace.
