Downtown ballpark design approved

The exterior design of the downtown ballpark, ONEOK Field, incorporates brick, zinc and Art Deco details that reflect the history of Greenwood.

The design, by HOK Sport of Missouri, was approved by the Tulsa Stadium Trust during a special meeting Wednesday.

The stadium will be home to the city's Double-A baseball team, the Tulsa Drillers. During the team's off-season, the stadium will host a variety of non-baseball events.

The stadium site is in the historic Greenwood District, nestling against Interstate 244, bounded by Elgin Avenue and Archer Street, and abutting the backside of the businesses along Greenwood Avenue.

Greenwood sits between the Brady and Blue Dome entertainment areas.

Stadium construction is set to be complete in time for the 2010 baseball season.
