Keep your smoke to yourself

By Staff reports

We have noticed people smoking in public places, and we feel strongly that people should not smoke in public. We think smoking affects the people who are near the smoker. Smoking pollutes the air.

One time our friend, Brendon, started coughing because two people were smoking when he walked by them. Another time our friend Jack started coughing because he had to pass by a group of smokers to go into Wal-Mart. A group of workers at the BOK Center were smoking when Jahnavi's family went in to buy tickets. The smell was so bad that Jahnavi had to hold her breath.

We want people to stop smoking in public because it bothers so many people. If you smoke, please don't do it in public!

Breathing in car fumes will also make a person cough.

Dear Kids, get real! Contrary to what your parents have been telling you, the world does NOT revolve around you.

Be glad you didn't grow up in the day when ok to smoke in the desk next to you at work, or sitting at the table next to you in a restaurant. God forbid you should have to suffer someone sitting in the row behind you on an airplane who is smoking.

We were able to push those people to the curb, and now it is time to let them have some space. If you back something into a corner then they may strike back and attempt to deprive you of some of your pleasures.

I will be sure to write the next time i see 15 screaming kids all ganged up at the mall, or in a theater when I am the only one trying to pay attention to the subject. You have a lot of disappoints that will be coming your way as you work you way up the food chain, I hope you find some compassion, or learn the definition of karma.

Had they been around 50 years or so they would have been in a real pickle, 50 percent or more of the adult population smoked. At least that's been cut in half.

You have done a good job of brainwashing there Cardiel even got the kids to sign your letter.

Children should be seen and not heard.
Keep Your little rugrats at home or in school where they belong.

It's ironic that the children who will lead this country today are being put down by the adults who smoke and polute the air they breath. Most States have laws prohibiting smoking in public places, Oklahoma has no such law, very few resturants ban smoking, when will OK get with the plan? Maybe we have to wait for these kids to grow up and become voters before we clean up the air around here.

I never thought that people on here that post, almost daily, would ever reach so low as to start bashing on a class of kids.

At least it makes for good entertainment.....

"I never thought that people on here that post, almost daily, would ever reach so low as to start bashing on a class of kids."
The fact that it is a class means that the kids are there to learn. Well the first thing they should learn is that whatever is taught to them on issues outside of the standard school curriculum is nothing more than one person's viewpoint & there is always more than just 1 side to any issue. I looks to me as if the teacher is using a class of 3rd graders to generate public sympathy for their own viewpoint. I wouldn't be surprised if the letter was written by the teacher. 3rd graders need to concentrate on the basics & stay out of politics. Teachers who use students to advance their own political agendas or opinions need to find another profession.

Exactly right Grizz, if the teacher is going to pimp out the kids, then everyone is fair game.

I don't smoke and as long as it isn't forced on me, i respect the smokers' craziness.

billy8,

Name me one restaurant in Sand Springs that allows smoking. Some have separate rooms in Tulsa but most don't. The fact of the matter is I like the no smoking policy in the restaurants.

This teacher sounds like the same one who sent in a letter throwing a hissy about someone smoking in her proximity while leaving Wal-mart and was told to bug off.

Bug off again!

Personal agendas need to be checked at the door.

Alright, I admit I was in an angsty mood. So, I'll make a comment for the kids:

Kids, I don't smoke. Both my parents do/did. Both got cancer, one died from it. In my childhood, I've inhaled more second-hand smoke than you EVER will. So have my sisters. Did it smell bad? Since it wasn't pipe tobacco, yeah it did(until it became more a background scent). But, anyway, it's not my business if people smoke outside. Smoke wafts away in the breeze and dissapates. I can move away. So what if I get an accidental noseful? It's not gonna kill me. Not by itself anyway. Well, just keep in mind that YOU have the choice someday to smoke or not.

I AM SO ASHAMED OF YOU SO CALLED ADULTS. The green issue is such a big deal, what not quit polluting the air with smoke.
Children, I also went to the manager at Walmart and complained that the smoking within a few steps of the entrances was serious for those of us with severe allergies. Come to find out most of the smokers were employees. I TOLD HIM THAT I WOULD NOT RETURN IF SOMETHING WAS NOT DONE. He was polite but said we needed to speak with the upper management in Bentonville. I called the 800-WALMART and was told they would return my call.
I NO LONGER BOTHER WITH THE STORES. It is more pleasant to shop elsewhere. Reasor's ask their employees to go to the back or side of the store. Thanks Reasor's.

Children keep up speaking up. I too have relatives who died from smoke.

JC, if you have that bad allergy problems, there are a lot worse smells at Wally world than just cigarette smoke. The law prohibits smoking inside. The employees are abiding by that law. I'm sure the store will do fine without your business.

Thank you for the letter, kids; I've seen worse letters written by "adults".

While I do understand that you have good intentions, you do not yet understand the complexity of the problem. Smoking will go away, or come close to that, on its own sweet time; addiction has a lot to do with that. There's not much you can say or do to make that happen faster.

What you can do is make your own choice to not smoke. It'll be good for you, good for those around you, and good for your cause. Good luck, kids. Don't do anything you'll regret or be ashamed of.

I just don't like the fact that I have to tell my 1st and 3rd grader that it isn't polite to be disrespectful to a smoker when they aren't bothering you.

Honestly, we get these poor kids so riled up about these things and they become little pains in the tail. They act like they are going to die if they get the slightest hint of smoke.

Yes, smoking is horribly bad for you. Last I heard between 70-90 percent of smokers want to quit and are perpetually trying. The last thing they need is a 3rd grader throwing attitude at them.

If Ms. Cardiel is planning on having her students read these comments, I certainly hope she has the common sense to review them first.

JC,

The employees don't care about you and your whining. Try working their job for a while, might deenflate that ego.

I haven't seen one person yet get bothered over severe allergies outside because of smoke. Not saying it doesn't happen, but still...

I bet these little darlings, their parents or the teacher wouldn't think twice about sitting in an enclosed building (IPE) watching a Monster truck show for hours breathing all those fumes and assaulting their eardrums. But they can't stand to walk past a store door and sniff a little smoke. This is why kids can't read or write and yet still graduate. Stuff like this is easier for the teacher than actually teaching. I'm a non-smoker, by the way.
