My heart and prayers go out to the families of these young men...at least now they can have some closure.

This is so horrible. My heart goes out to the family. Praying for peace and comfort. That road needs signs saying it leads directly into the lake.

I always wondered if someone could do what they did considering that old US 69 was pretty much left alone and is used as boat ramps from where it crosses the flooded lake zone. You can look at photos that show the phenomenon. https://www.google.com/maps/@35.0376378,-95.7060856,892m/data=!3m1!1e3

It was done as a courtesy to anglers who use the old highway for boat ramps. But I've heard of other deadly cases before that happened like this one.

It is very under standable how they could have driven off onto the road that goes straight into the Lake -- why in the world would that be alloed to be that way -- any one that canot see that well at night - not familer with the road--its dark--water every where ,, late at night ,, my Godhorrible thing -- can that be fixed ?? like no

I have 'night vision' problems myself. I really can understand the terrible problems, the driver, with less than 3 month's driving experience and never drivin' that far, must have felt that dark and stormy night. But, you know what, friends since before pre-K, they were 'true blood' to each other until the end....Brothers to the end.
Actually, I really cannot even imagine. But, it appears they will remain friends for life, as they intended. God bless you younsters and parents...[sad]

That is exactly the scenario I was imagining, that it was dark, they missed their turn and drove down an actual road (I looked on Google) right into a lake that was a higher level than usual. I totally agree with other statements that something should be done about that, one should have to turn OFF a road to a boat ramp. The road shouldn't BECOME a ramp. How sad.

Should have been Onapa.
Scott Headrick posted at 5:40 pm on Mon, Jun 8, 2015.
I have been there hundreds of times Josh, I used to fish there very often. There should be signs warning people that the lake is ahead. Look up this road on Google earth, start from Oapa and keep going west to it enters the lake. The image on Google earth was taken when the lake was down a few feet, the day those boys drove into the water the lake was very high and the dotted line on the road would've gone straight into the water. I have often said to my folks I can't believe that people haven't driven off into this yet. Who knows maybe people have driven into it but it just didn't need this tragically.

I am just saying that no matter WHAT the weather or circumstances, there should NEVER be a regular road that just ends in a body of water. One should have to turn OFF a regular road to a parking lot or a paved space before you get that near a lake. And until such a situation is fixed, there should be all KINDS of signage, for miles back, that states this road leads directly into a body of water.

How terribly sad. My heart goes out to their family and friends. May God comfort them.
Matt jones posted at 2:06 pm on Mon, Jun 8, 2015.
Yes it is a tragic loss for these two families, but think about this before making a judgement call about someone being the blame. How many times has this type of incident occurred at this particular location? If the ramp is closed, the fishermen who use it will not be happy. This was a case of wrong place, wrong time, tragic circumstances that could of happened to anyone, not just these two young men.
Scott Headrick posted at 1:20 pm on Mon, Jun 8, 2015.
What makes it even worse, is that it is a good paved road, very smooth. As you get close to the lake you go down a dip and then within 50 feet you're in the water. I'm sure with the lake being so high the water was probably right up to the dip in the road. Those poor boys but I never even saw the water till it was too late. That road should have had a barricade in front of it, if you are not one of the locals you would have no idea that you were speeding into the lake.
Dianne L. Smith posted at 12:46 pm on Mon, Jun 8, 2015.

Seems like THAT whole driving into the lake possibility needs to be fixed pronto!
Scott Headrick posted at 10:25 am on Mon, Jun 8, 2015.
I can't even imagine what the family has been going through for the last two weeks. I think it would be safe to say everyone has been heartbroken since they heard the news of these two boys disappearing.
The Onapa boat ramp is only a mile and a half from my boyhood home. It's not even really a boat ramp, it is a paved asphalt road that goes straight into the lske. I suspect they missed their exit to go westbound on I 40 as they were going southbound on Highway 69, and took the next exit, which is the Onapa exit. This boat ramp is only a half a mile off the Onapa exit. If you're not familiar with the area, and it happens to be nighttime it would be very easy to accidentally drive straight into the lake.

We'd been praying since their disappearance was announced, fearful their vehicle on been swept off the road and that this would be the result. Many, many prayers that the Lord will cover their families with His love, comfort and support.
