In 2006, Marlette gave readers his take on cartoons.

A Marlette profile written in 2006.

See the cartoons that earned Marlette the Pulitzer Prize.

Doug Marlette drew nearly 350 cartoons during the all too brief time he was with the Tulsa World. They covered a wide range of topics -- local, state, national and international.

Marlette, the

Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist, was killed Tuesday in a car wreck in Mississippi.

We've tried to put together a representative sampling of his work for the World. It is difficult to choose just a handful as being his best, because all of them exhibited his sharp wit, his artistry, his passion and his professionalism.

Some of these cartoons tickled our readers, some offended, and some did both at once. But all of them evoked a response of some kind and caused the World's readers, including his colleagues here at the paper, to think.

Let us all hope that PGA visitors don't wander off the prepared streets and see the high weeds and grass and potholes that residents live with day after day.

I will miss Doug Marlette's cartoons and the ability he had to capture Tulsa's political climate in the short time he was here. Not many people have the courage to face the criticism that comes with that kind of honesty.

I'm sitting in my art studio looking at the letter Doug wrote to me in 1988 while at

the Atlanta Constitution.Since then,I've followed it to the letter, and I'm not sorry

I did.I only regret not being able to meet him.In my life I've known two Pulitzer Prize

winners.The other Ed Voltman.

This is not a farwell, but a THANK YOU.

Follow his insight on his work, and you'll find

the true meaning of the WORLD of political cartooning.I'll miss his work.He is the foundation of mine.THANK YOU again Doug.
