Rogers State University in Claremore has a proud history and a clear eye on the future.

Founded March 25, 1909, as Eastern University Preparatory School, it was operated as Oklahoma Military Academy for more than 50 years beginning in 1919, counting a number of prominent Oklahomans among its alumni. It became Claremore Junior College in 1971, was renamed Rogers State College in 1982 and became Rogers State University in 2000.

Today RSU is a four-year institution serving one of the state's fastest-growing population areas. It has a diverse student body of 4,000 — ten times its enrollment when it was OMA — on campuses in Claremore, Bartlesville and Pryor. RSU is one of only two Oklahoma institutions that offers both two-year associate degree programs and four-year bachelor's degree programs.

Under the capable leadership of President Larry Rice, RSU offers a full range of academic programs, student services, intercollegiate men's and women's basketball, its own full-power public TV station and radio station.

RSU is a real success story and a key part of the higher education scene in northeastern Oklahoma. The school is celebrating its 100th anniversary this week. Happy birthday, Rogers State.

Happy Centennial Rogers State. I remember growing up in a little farm house across the street when it was a military academy...Fond memories of the area. As a kid, I enjoyed sifting through the debris of ammo boxes and such left at the private salvage on the property we lived...Good times...
