Letter to the editor: In defense of Fox
Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, and Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., appear on "Fox News Sunday" in Washington. Freddie Lee/Fox News Sunday

In response to Sandy Wylie's letter ("Propaganda machine," Nov. 1), I wholeheartedly disagree that Fox is not a legitimate news channel. It is!
I would like to ask Wylie where the outrage was when the "real" news channels were slicing and dicing Sarah Palin, John McCain, Rush Limbaugh and every other conservative who disagrees with the liberal agenda? Where were you when the media were constantly spewing hateful rhetoric toward former President George W. Bush? Where was your outrage when Speaker Nancy Pelosi accused those opposing this ridiculous health care reform bill of carrying "swastikas and symbols like that" when every taxpayer there was just exercising the right to stop the government from ramming this bill down our throats? How about that "fair" coverage of the millions of people who attended the tea parties? It received virtually no coverage from the major networks and none from CNN and MSNBC.
I have observed the tone of voices, sneers, body language and facial contortions from all the supposedly "fair networks" and I'm fed up with such biased liberal coverage as many others are. I'm not a right-wing conservative and there are plenty of people like me in the middle or slightly to the right or left who don't appreciate unfair coverage.
Fox News is the only news network that's not afraid to ask tough questions and find truth, unlike other news networks that promote their agenda with sickening soft news coverage. They are whining because Fox is winning the ratings race.
Letters to the editor are encouraged. Each letter must be signed and include an address and a telephone number where the writer can be reached during business hours. Addresses and phone numbers will not be published. Letters should be a maximum of 250 words to be considered for publication and may be edited for length, style and grammar. Letters should be addressed to Letters to the Editor, Tulsa World, Box 1770, Tulsa, Okla., 74102, or send e-mail to
letters@tulsaworld.com

There were not 'millions' who attended the tea party March on Washington. The DC police, who are unbiased, put the crowd at 40,000. Fox and its anchors promoted and organized the March with 24/7 Fox coverage in the days leading up to the March, with 'reporters' cheerleading the rally.
Several weeks later there was a protest on the same mall organized by the gay and lesbian community marching for equal rights. The DC police estimated the crowd as 40,000, the same estimte given for the tea party protest.
Where was Fox News and its coverage on the gay and lesbian march? Fox failed to send a single crew or reporter to cover the event. Fox gave this event exactly three minutes of coverage the Saturday of the protest march.
While no Fox crew or reporter showed up to cover the event, they did devote eight minutes of air time to a simultaneous protest in New Jesey, attended by a few dozen protestors and a FOX news crew and 'reporter' claiming that the local school was brainwashing children with its Obama song.
Fair and Balanced?
Why did they not devote any coverage to the gay rights protest in DC since the crowd was estimated by the DC police as the same size as the Fox encouraged Tea Party protest?
Fairly Unbalanced.

I just love the way conservatives dispatch their election losers by calling them "Republicans, not conservatives." I wonder if FS realizes that Rush Limbaugh also refers to the Republicans who lose elections as "Republicans, not conservatives?" It is hilarious to see how the elephants eat their own.

So if Fox News is such a trash bin, why is still on the air? What happened to Air America?

zzx375:
Fox News is still on the air because it commands a huge share of the small market providing political entertainment. About 3 million people tune it to its pm shows. That is about 1% of the American people. Air America was not able to attract a large enough audience to be sustainable.
The people on the far right who like to view political talk shows have their one television network--Fox News. Moderates and liberals have a larger number of choices and divide their loyalties. The result is that none of the other networks will get the ratings of Fox News and some will fall by the wayside.
However, this story was not about numbers of viewers. It was about whether or not Fox News is a real news network. I vote NO!! It is entertainment and propaganda.

This issue is reminiscent of the controversy stirred by "The Smothers Brothers Show" on TV a few short decades back. It was a time when conservatism was, if not popular, at least expected on TV. The really big shows were Bonanza and Gunsmoke and Bob Hope and The Andy Williams Show.
The Smothers came along with their (at the time) radically liberal views which were reflected in the scripting of the program. They had running gun battles weekly with TV censors, and conservative news anchors and Baptist preachers alike treated them as the spawn of Satan. TV critics predicted their show would - and should - be pulled before the end of its first season.
The Smothers won, and were wildly successful for 4 years, making CBS a ton of money before CBS shot itself in the foot and cancelled the show.
The liberal Smothers were the first to challenge the conservative dominant media's control of public discourse, and the dominant media of the day did not like it.
However, the magic of capitalism worked as well then as it does now. While the dominant media did not like having its influence usurped, it did like making money. Thus the old bosses were ushered out and the new bosses ushered in.
Now the new bosses have become just as comfortable and arrogant as the old bosses were, and they are incensed at the challenge presented by Fox.
But again, the magic of capitalism is at work. Fox is making a running ton of money while the other networks struggle. MSNBC and, to only a slighltly lesser extent, NBC, will continue to be campaign headquarters for President Obama so long as there is a prayer of getting cap and tax passed. GE has invested hugely in Obama and the carbon credit market, and stands to make billions if President Obama is successful. (Interesting to note that greed drives the leftist agenda perhaps even more than the right.) If cap and tax is irreversibly killed, it would not surprise me if MSNBC recruits Glen Beck and Sean Hannity to replace Matthews and Olberman. They will need the money.

Dear Lisa,
As long as the network sponsors and supports organized mass demonstrations against the federal government, it is NOT a NEWS NETWORK.
A news network reports news--it is not in business to sponsor anti-government events.
Wise up tea potties. Realize when you are being used.

I love Foxx news. Its a great place to listen to out of power Republicans whine. They are actually bigger cry babies than the Democrats and the channel gives excellent insight to the thought process of an out of touch political party.

Many people watch Dancing with the Stars, the Biggest Loser, American Idol, and the Bachelor too. There is much more reality on those shows than on Fox News.
Fox News is nothing more than the media division of the Republican Party...

Ya, I like Foxx news too!! Hearing Red call Lamont a dummy and watching him fake that heart attack and always slamming Ester. Oh wait, that's the Red Foxx's old show Sanford and Son. Well, it's about like Fox News, pure entertainment and it's good for some laughs!!

50 percent of all Americans have below average intelligence I think she has made it evident which side of the median her IQ falls, based upon her inability to discern the difference between fair representation of issue, facts and discussion and those that are manipulated for propaganda purposes, and her apparent lack of interest in pursuing actual facts independent of Fox News.

For the same reason that professional wrestling is still on the air: neither is real but each provides an escape from reality.

Jester1969: (Off topic) I read Glenn Beck’s “Common Sense,” just as I promised I would. I found it full of rather lofty but ultimately empty rhetoric. Even more egregious is Beck’s wishful thinking that equates him with Thomas Paine and the hypocrisy when he confuses the Enlightenment-minded Paine with his own anti-Enlightenment-mindedness.
Enough about that.

Bison3,lol! I have to exert a certain pity for anyone so close minded they will not accept Fox "news" for the propaganda machine it is. In truth and fact Hannity, Beck et al make no pretense whatsoever of being "fair and balanced." They hate most Americans and the "news" department reflects that hatred.

Also Lisa, character assassination is a favored tactic of the left. Because there is ONE network that goes against their message, they demonize it and all those that watch it. It shows that they aren't as tolerate as they like to preach. Knowing nothing about you, they attempt to undertake with unwarrantable boldness the task of evaluating your intelligence level based on one single factor, what news source you watch.
As Saul Alinsky said in his "Rules for Radicals", in war, ends justify almost any means. The left is waging war against Fox falling in step with the wishes of the current Administration.
