Interview: Power play at Style

‘There are lots of conflicts coming up’
Sharon Case’s “Y&R” character is sitting on a powderkeg.

Sharon Case knew going in that it would be difficult for Jack, Sharon, Nick and Phyllis to play nice when they decided to start a magazine together. Sharon Case, who has played Sharon Abbott on “The Young and the Restless” since 1994, says that’s part of the fun. “You put these characters in situations they normally wouldn’t be in and it’s fun to see what happens.”

The two couples didn’t go into this blind: They knew they were going to have their troubles working together, but as Sharon tells me:

“They were hoping for the best with the conflicts they knew existed. But those conflicts didn’t outweigh the idea of creating the magazine. They can see the positive points of their partnership, even though Sharon and Phyllis do not get along. Sharon looks forward to spending time with Nick and with Jack.”

Eventually, though, someone is going to have to come out on top. And Sharon says when that time comes, there will be fireworks.

“There are lots of conflicts coming up – between Sharon and Phyllis, and also between Nick and Jack, and even Sharon and Jack.”

The Sharon and Jack conflict could have something to do with Jack’s need for vengeance. Nick and Phyllis just wrote an unflattering article, into which Phyllis injected some juicy tidbits about Sharon (unbeknownst to Nick). When Jack and Sharon find out, the claws will come out.

“Obviously, Sharon and Jack don’t like the article. Jack retaliates by doing another interview. Sharon doesn’t want to keep going back and forth,

using the magazine for personal vendettas. She just wants it to stop.”

Many fans of “Y&R” have a distinct opinion about the couples. There is a large contingency who want Phyllis and Jack back together and want Sharon with Nick again. Sharon is flattered when she hears about the passion the show’s fans feel for the characters.

“I’m glad there are those who feel that way. If there weren’t, then they wouldn’t care so much about the current storyline.

“I also think this is something that we all can relate to: longing to be with another who really is your soul mate. It’s a tragic love story.”

But that is not to say that Sharon doesn’t love Jack. “She stays with Jack because she does love him. He picked her up out of the low place she was at after her marriage broke up. Sharon sees Jack as a great security to her and Noah.”

Because of Noah, Nick will always have a place in her life. “Nick and Sharon are soul mates. She never stopped loving him; it was circumstance that caused them to part.”

Everything that Sharon has gone through has helped her to grow into the woman she is now. “I’m glad she went through all that she has,” Sharon says. “She has matured and changed. It’s been fun to see her morph and change with the years.” In the years to come, Sharon Case will still be excited to play her alter ego.

“I try to keep her interesting even when she’s not in a frontburner storyline. I’m just so glad the writers have written me so many great stories over the years, and have made Sharon who she is today."

In the interviews I've read with Sharon, she's enjoyed her storyline with Peter very much. As for Sharon the character, GMAB! Her jerk of a husband cheated on her for months, while she grieved for her dead child and had to take care of another all the while he was busy cheating and shutting Sharon out. She turned to Brad for comfort, it was a mistake one that never happened again. Sharon broke things off with Brad for good and is happily married to Jack. Sharon Case is not delusional, she spoke the truth about her character!

There are many many many fans that have stopped watching the show altogether since Nick and Sharon were parted. The fanbase is out here for these two to be reunited whether some folks want to accept it or not. Sharon's candor and honesty about her character is always refreshing when there is so much bull to sift through online at biased online message boards and internet sites. Thanks for allowing her to speak....and she certainly speaks for ME when she says Nick and Sharon fans are ready for a reunion. The state of the couples on the show has been laughable for over three years. The only delusional people are the ones that fail to accept the truth that Nick and Sharon have always been the end game. I'll be watching for the soulmates to reunite!

Even though I am a Phyllis and Nick fan, I always have appreciated Sharon Case and her devotion to her original pairing on the show. She is obviously still very attached to Nick and Sharon. I hope she finds peace in her pairing with Peter or whoever she ends up with on the show. She is a very talented performer. Southern by Grace, it is good to see you posting here. We miss you on the teal board. I am not sure why you continue to pass yourself off as a Shick fan (lol) since you spent two years making videos, almost appearing on the Emmy's with the video you sent in last summer about the "passion" of Phick and all in all, supporting Nick and Phyllis in every other way. It's confusing but it is still good to see you out there keeping on, keeping on.

I believe that one day,she and Nick will reunite...it's forecasted by their fanbase. the writers will not ignore us because they know that we are here. I like how they are letting Sharon Case's character grow into a woman with an edge who still have scruples and a niceness about her. I hope that they continue to let her grow and be a force to reckon with...without losing her basic integrity. The writers have a real chance to do something positive with a character that so many of us like and we are many. This was a nice interview and i agree with Ms. Case about her character because she knows all the insights and she plays her well. I am a true fan of Ms. Case, she is truly amazing as her alta ego. She is not the only reason i watch Y&R,but she is one of the main reasons that i watch as often as i do. Nice job with the interview and beautiful job playing Sharon Abbott.

I love it when you are paired with anyone, but I especially love Sharon with Nick. You have definately got it right when you say Nick is your Soulmate and You are Nick’s soulmate too. I know that Nick will reunite with Sharon in the future. I hope it’s soon! Keep up the great work! You are an Amazing Actress! You Rock!
	Report Comment Raspberry, (8/24/2008 7:23:48 PM) Thanks for the wonderful interview with Sharon Case, She is my favorite actress on the show, Sharon Case is saying what her fans have always known, that Sharon and Nick are soulmates, their love is a love that will stand the test of time. I love the edge that her character has, Sharon Case is an awesome actress, that brings her scenes in everytime, looking forward to Sharon and Nick reuniting, Sharon Case you rock.

SC knows her character well, Sharon has NEVER stopped loving Nick, she has moved on but she will always be in love with her first true love. There are alot of people who have been waiting for a reunion for three long years, I can hardly wait to see what the writers have in store for us, I have been loving how Sharon has not been afraid to stand up to Phyllis and so I hope we see alot more of this. No where in this interview or any other interviews have I ever seen Sharon say she is not happy to be working with Peter. GREAT INTERVIEW SHARON CASE.

I would love to see sharon back with nick soon, i always thought they were a great couple on the show and was disappointed when the show broke them up. Sharon Case is a great interpretor of her character Sharon Abbott, after all she has been playing her for over a decade. She has never stopped loving Nick and vice versa. She and Nick are soulmates and always will be. I have every confidence that Sharon and Nick will finally be where they should be....with each other! The reunion will happen, it's just a matter of time.
	Report Comment southrnbygrace, (8/24/2008 8:34:48 PM) Lisa, I had an epiphany last year watching a Phyllis scene and realized the error of my ways. LOL....I've been firmly planted on the Nick and Sharon side since then. I've deleted all my N/P videos so they will only live in everyone's memories. I've started making a few Nick and Sharon vids though. In retrospect I'm eternally grateful my video was not on the Emmys. LOL...divine intervention! ;)
	Report Comment DAWN888, (8/24/2008 9:43:20 PM) SHARON CASE IS SPEAKING OF HER CHARACTER SHARON, not about herself. If you know the character of Sharon, its so easy to see that the character never wanted the divorce, she was totally in love with nick Newman, you'd have to be blind not to see it. She has way more chemistry with Josh than with Peter. Josh and Sharon C. have a natural chemistry with each other than is unmatched by any other couple on this show. CAN HARDLY WAIT FOR THE REUNION.
	Report Comment MaggieMay, (8/24/2008 10:08:17 PM) It amazes me how it always depends on which side of the fence you sit as to whether or not you believe an actors words. We all know that soaps are filmed many weeks in advance so an actor would have insight as to the current story line as well as in what direction the character is moving. I don't find any of Sharon Case's words or thoughts to be delusional. She's correct in that there is a large fan base wanting and waiting for a reunion between her character and Nick just as there's a fan base for the character of phyllis with Nick. If anyone thinks Sharon Case has some kind of "sick fantasy/obsession with Nick and Joshua Morrow" all one has to do is remember the interviews MS gave about how she loves making out with Joshua Morrow. JM is a married man presumably very much in love with his wife and their 3 sons, yet MS chooses to use JM's real name instead of his characters name. Seems to me if anyone is sick in their fantasy/obsession it's MS. How rude her comments were especially to Mrs Morrow. It's no secret that Nick and Sharon divorced but not because they stopped loving each other. Left alone they would have worked out their problems just as they always had before. phick will fade away but Sharon and Nick are forever. Deal with it.

First, she said she wanted Sharon to have an affair with Nick behind Phyllis. The writers DIDN'T listen. But no, she keeping on moaning and groaning in interviews that Nick belongs with Sharon, not Nick. The writers STILL didn't listen. They're just validating her stupid fantasies are just that. Lol. BTW...Mrs. Morrow, is good friends with Michelle Stafford. Some people know a joke when they see it. Some like you, obviously don't.
	Report Comment RtotheS , (8/24/2008 10:49:34 PM) I had a good laugh reading Ms. Cases interview, I for one must have the missed the s/l's where we saw Sharon actually maturing, her character hasn't changed much at all, she still plays whatever side she thinks is to her benefit. Sharon's character is as fickle as they come, last year a viewer could have gotten whiplash listening to Sharon proclaim her true love to three different men in a span of a few motnhs...even in a soap world that's light speed! Sharon Collins Newman Abbott is a shallow self-serving, self-pitying character... not terribly interesting to watch regardless of who she is paired with.

That is a man that finally realized that is toxic marriage to the moronic sharon was finally over and fell deeply in love with another woman. and again. and again he fell in love. where do you get from that that sharon is his soul mate. if the writers want to change the last three years, let them. it will be unrealistic and will never be the passion and intensity that is nick and phyllis newman.

I think the new writing team has said on more than one occasion that the plan is to undo all the tarnished things that last gal did when she took over. It seems to me that lots of characters were written out of order and character. So that's why some of that nonsense happened. I think that Bell lady said she was going to restore some things and fans would then just be able to forget these past few years. So I think with that I just showed you why all that stuff happened. LML and I just showed you why it's gonna be undone. So what were the worst years will just be swept away.

In fact, Maria Bell has solidified Nick and Phyllis even more. She even SOLD their ranch house to Victoria. She undid the amnesia... I could go on and on. None of us have a crystal ball - Neither does Sharon Case. She's been crying reunion since day one - With LML, Maria Bell, Josh Griffiths and Now Hogan Sheffer. And its failed every single time. If she wants us to respect her, she's got to respect the fact that Nick DID fall in love with Phyllis. But she doesn't. she distorts the entire storyline and presents it the way she would like to see it. Hence, the bashing.

There's no wave to ride and you saying that just shows your as blind and ignorant as a possum lying under the wheels of a car. Any fool can see she's a star in her own right otherwise that show would have canned her a long time ago. Instead she's stayed front burner for 14 years with JM and other stars. You think tptb are idiots for doing that? It's by design but I guess you think you know better right? It's like your butt hole you think it's better but really it still just smells as rotten as your breath and your lies your spewing stink too. Bill Bell loved the character and just as GC was named after Genoa City Wisconsin a vacation place Bill Bell drove through, so he named one of his favorite heroines after Sharon, Wisconsin. The actress plays her well and it's obvious the writers think so also. It's good folks like you biddies are just sitting at home watching soaps and hanging on these boards. If you were out in the real world doing something we'd be in a boat load of trouble. Learn to separate fact from fiction and stop projecting your hate on the actress. It's not healthy nor is it becoming of a soap fan.
	Report Comment phicklover2, (8/25/2008 7:09:36 AM) marlboroman...i dont think we are the dillusional fans. you and your chronies stalk JM and seem to feel that maybe one day he will be looking in your direction. this is a soap opera and perhaps we all root for our favorite couples, but the actors involved see this as just a job. They may have feelings about their characters but it is the writers that ultimately have the power. I am sure SC, MS, JM and PB wouldnt do and say any of the things they do as their characters if it were up to them. MS has raved about the other three one time or another, as has JM and PB. It seems to be only SC that goes in one direction. She has been paired with PB for over two years and i have yet to see an interview where she says anything remotely complimentary, same goes for what she says about MS and her character. The thing she gets fixated about is some sort of soulmate, real estate in eachothers hearts, will always love, for the last three years while onscreen there was nothing going on..like at all. She has campaigned for a shick reunion, begged borrowed and pimped every interview in that light. I find that to be insulting to her costars and self serving because she cant make it work with another.
	Report Comment Phyllisfan36, Bloomington (8/25/2008 8:09:28 AM) Before Nick & Phyllis hooked up I had no problems with Sharon Case, I wasn't a fan but I didn't hate the character of Sharon instead I just FF thru any scenes she and Nick were in because they did nothing for me but after the writers hooked up Nick & Phyllis I became a fan of that couple and then I started paying attention to Ms. Case's interviews and noticed that she is living in a dream world when it comes to her character. Sharon Case stated on the Soapnet promo talking about her character Sharon that "Sharon is a good girl" so am I to understand that good girl's kiss their father in laws, sleep with their brother in law's, try and get their sister in law's boyfriend to dump them on their wedding day, and oh yeah abandon their kids for months without so much as a phone call and I could go on and on. IMO She needs to pay attention to what the character is saying and doing instead of trying to project this image that Sharon is a saint. The other thing that made me not care for Sharon Case is that she is so jealous over the Nick & Phyllis pairing that it's not even funny. MS has gone out of her way to say how she and SC are friends in interviews and say nice things about her and yet I have to this day not heard one word come from Sharon Case's mouth about MS but the final nail in the coffin for me with this actress was when MS did an interview on Soaps com and talked about how she wanted fans to stop saying mean things about Sharon Case and herself since they are freinds and yet Sharon Case has done what 2 or 3 interviews since then and not one single word to some of her crazy fans to stop saying mean things about MS. The woman should be thanking her lucky stars that the writers hooked her up with PB instead of begging the writers to put Nick & Sharon back together a couple that did nothing but cheat, lie and abandon one another. Also if JM is really her friend then she wouldn't want to try and force the writers to put him in back in a pairing that did nothing for him.
	Report Comment SUNNYNELDEM, (8/25/2008 9:31:21 AM) Sharon Case is a class act. I am one of the many devoted fans of Sharon and Nick and do see them as a love story. The tragedy of Cassie's death coupled with an opportunistic woman, devasted the first Mrs. Nicholas Newman's marriage. I, like many others, stopped watching for a few months when the homewrecker Phyllis had her po-dunk wedding. But, that "marriage" of cheaters has been a big joke and always real easy to poke fun at. There is no everlasting love in that marriage. I am looking forward to tptb realizing what a great storyline they have in the Summer paternity reveal. I would love to see the dynamics and explosion of emotions by all four actors involved. Jack being Summer's daddy heightens the animosity and makes for great drama! Jack and Sharon have a love for one another, but it does not compare to the love that she has for Nick or him for her. Nick has never really "loved" Phyllis--heck when he was hit on the head he was mortified at the thought of being married to her! He is just "diggin" her right now and if Sharon and Nick reunite he wants it to be "difficult" and I so agree. I can't wait for the Sharon and Nick reunion--it will be filled with all the angst and emotion that only Y&R can deliver--Bring it on!

FYI...it's not real! Sharon Case is a great actress and is doing what she's supposed to do. Her job. Part of her job is to give interviews. She responds to the questions that are asked. It's not her responsibility to make sure she mentions any particular actor (MS) to appease some people who may read the article. You have no idea about this woman just from a couple of paragraphs. It makes me laugh that her haters call her delusional or obsessed just by reading a few lines. "She is jealous of Nick & Phyllis"....ROFLMAO I wish I could read between the lines that well. Maybe I could win the lottery!! Get over it! You don't know this woman. Never met her. Have NO idea what she feels. JM & MS are going to do what is written for them. Whether that's keeping their characters together or splitting them up. And if they split up, these two actors will give the same glowing interviews that they're giving now. Same goes for any other actors on the show.

I get it, your jealous cause sharon case is beautiful and talented actress and you prefer the loud rude actors sumwhat like yourself. Why don't you move on and let us enjoy the soap.

First of all, don't you understand that all the actors on every soap opera come in and say exactly word for word what the writers tell them to do? I have never seen such fans as the Phick fans who either believe these characters are real or can't accept the fact that their favorite couple will break up some day. Guess what? It has NOTHING to do with SC. The actors on every show in the world are just that, actors. That is what they get paid to do and that's say what the writers tell them to. Now I have seen everything. OMG, you are saying SC is jealous of Nick and Phyllis? Are you serious? That is the dumbest and most obvious jealous comment I have ever read. Don't you realize that Nick and Phyllis are ACTORS they don't really go home together after they tape the show. Someone needs to let you know that these couples on soap operas aren't real. From reading Phick fans replies I get the feeling some just don't understand this isn't REAL LIFE. I could go on and on but you Phick fans are the joke of the day. It's sad really reading what the majority of you say about this couple thinking they are real and are going to be together for life. You got 3 years of them and how many years did they show them with your fantasies? ONE year. LOL Guess what the WRITERS let Sharon and Nick do? They got to show them being lovers for the whole 10 years. LOL You all are a trip and that's all I have to say except that you can't be over 16 years old!
