A rocker’s take on Dfest fashion

“I’m pretty simple,” said Ryan Lindsey, who’ll probably wear jeans and a button-up shirt over a tee during Dfest — while he’s performing, of course.

We caught up with him recently by phone while he was at home in Norman. You’ll find Lindsey — probably in those jeans and a button-up — midnight Saturday at Blue Dome Roadhouse.

(In case you’d like a sneak listen, his song “Let’s Go Out” is featured on the soundtrack for Paramount Vantage Film’s movie “American Teen” — hear it at tulsaworld.com/ryanlindsey.)

But back to his wardrobe. As it’s probably going to be hot, Lindsey pointed out, a pair of cool shorts would be apropos. “But wear a button- up because if it’s hot during the day, you can always unbutton it,” then button it back up for hitting the clubs.

A West Coast viewpoint

Mia Crow knows more than a thing or two about festivals.

As the Visionworks Music rep for indie artist AM (who just happened to attend Jenks Junior High — you may remember him as Anthony Miller), Crow attends as many as 15 music festivals a year, not to mention up to 200 concerts.

“Most important is your shoe choice,” Crow advised during a recent e-mail exchange. Pick “comfort over cute” if you plan on walking from one band to the other.

“Since sweating is not my favorite thing to do, I try to wear things in layers, so I can take them oA,” she said. “But I’ll probably shove a hoodie in my bag in case I go somewhere that has some

King Kong air conditioning.”

As for makeup: “Fresh, young, natural is still very in —that look of youth with just a touch of lip gloss, mascara and a bit of eyeliner.” Although she admits sometimes being “stuck in the ’80s and lining the inside of her eyelids on the top and bottom with black liner. “Sue me, everyone should have their own signature look.”

On nails: “Walk around with chipped, nasty hammer toes, and who can notice anything else, right? So rock the fresh manicure, and you’ll be loved by all.”

Any advice for guys?

“You’re always comfortable, right? Just wear clean underwear and deodorant, and you’re golden.”

Finally, “Above all, my mother always gave the best advice: Be yourself, be unique, and only follow trends that look good on you.”
