In the small but mighty tradition, Gilcrease Museum's American Art in Miniature show and sale is one of our favorite events.

The annual event offers a chance to purchase great art and visit with the artists who created it.

The exhibit will run through Nov. 8. If you are interested in purchasing a piece of art, plan to attend the cocktail buffet and silent auction sale Nov. 5. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the sale begins at 6 p.m.

American Art in Miniature 2009 offers work from 180 talented artists from across the nation. Among the featured artists are Otto Duecker (of Tulsa), William Acheff, Robert Griffing, Jim Wilcox, Gerald Balciar, Dean Mitchell, Cyrus Afsary and John Banovich. All works of art are no larger than 108 square inches (example: 9 inches by 12 inches) exclusive of the frame. Sculptures are no larger than 1,728 cubic inches (example: 12 inches square) exclusive of base.

New this year is a phone bank for those unable to attend the sale but who would like to make a purchase. Starting at 6 p.m. Nov. 5 call 596-2761 to place a bid or buy it now.

The online purchase price reflects the reserve price set by the artist. Artworks not sold on Nov. 5 will be available online at the Reserve Price through Nov. 15 and may be purchased by calling the museum store at (918) 596-2725 during business hours from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday-Sunday. All works are subject to availability. The sale closes at 5 p.m. Nov. 15.

The exhibit is presented by Case and Associates Properties Inc.,
MidFirst Bank, NORDAM, American Electric Power-Public Service Company of Oklahoma, Unit Corp., the Walton Family Foundation and the Williams Foundation.

Oven Jr. Committee members include Teresa Adwan, Joanie Atkinson, Mary Barnes, Debbie Branch, Aaron Clark, Paul Dougherty, Joseph Gierek, Susan Jackson, Kristen Kenneally, Ellen Lucas, John McNulty, Darcey Moran, Elizabeth Peterson, E.C.
