Music legend Vince Gill and Will Rogers have a lot in common. That makes it a perfect fit for Gill to receive the Will Rogers Spirit Award during the Rotary Club of Will Rogers' 2009 gala Oklahoma Swing Nov. 8 at the Cain's Ballroom.
According to gala chairman John Knox, "Vince Gill was chosen because he exemplifies the Spirit of Will Rogers. Absolutely anyone who knows of Vince Gill says the same thing. He is such a great guy. Humble, and so very generous."
The evening will begin with a reception followed by a barbecue dinner provided by Crowne Plaza Chef Nikko.
The program will follow and will include entertainment, a friendly "Roast & Toast" to Gill, comments by friends and family of Gill, Will Rogers and many more.
Jay Litchfield will also lead a live auction, which includes a guitar which Gill has personally autographed.
Elite & Platinum sponsors and guests are invited to a private reception and photo session with Gill while they enjoy music provided by Mark Burner and Shelby Eicher. The general reception will be held in "Bobs, Stage 2," with entertainment by "Merle Jam."
The dress is Western wear.
John Wooley will be the evening's emcee. He is an author, former Tulsa World writer and the producer and host of "Swing on This," Tulsa's only Western-swing radio program heard every Saturday night on NPR affiliate KWGS (89.5 FM).
Proceeds from the evening will be shared with the Blue Star Mothers of America, Oklahoma Chapter 1.
Barbara Porter, executive director of the organization, said "The Gala and organizations like this are what makes it possible for us to continue sending Freedom Boxes to the deployed troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. The items in the boxes and the things we send, let the troops know that there are people back home that appreciate the sacrifices that they and their families are making. We try to send Freedom Boxes every week year-round with an extra boost at the Christmas holidays."
Elite Sponsors include Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa; First Fidelity Bank; Cox; American Airlines; and K95.5FM.
Additional sponsors include KJRH 2 Works For You; Will Rogers Museum; VYPE Magazine; TNT Staff Pro/Westco International; Southwood Landscape & Nursery; CJC Architects; Knox Inspection; Bob Bryant/Larry Harral; Flintco; ProSource; Rich & Cartmill; Magee, Rousch & Shelton LLP; K&M Shillingford; Mark K. Kelley-UPS Store; Eide Bailly LLP; Crystal Pistol Saloon and Cain's Ballroom.
