Several Oklahoma country music stars are among the country artists who will be profiled in a new ABC television special, "In the Spotlight With Robin Roberts: Bright Lights. Big Stars. All Access Nashville," on Nov. 10.

Checotah native Carrie Underwood, Norman native Vince Gill and Rascal Flatts -- with Picher native Joe Don Rooney -- are among the stars featured in the one-hour special, airing on Tulsa's KTUL, channel 8.

Tim McGraw and Martina McBride also will be profiled, and Rosanne Cash, Gill and Loretta Lynn will be interviewed about their musical families, the CMT Web site showed.

In addition, President Barack Obama, Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts will take part in a segment about their favorite country songs, the site reported.

Viewers may go to abcnews.com to cast their vote, too. The winning song will be revealed the following morning on Good Morning America.

Check local listings for showtimes.

I'm proud to be an Okie from Muskogee!

Calling someone cowboy use to be derogatory as well but it has turned in to a term worth great pride to many.

I wasn't aware that Obama is a country singer. Man, that guy has his fingers in everything. The jack of all trades, master of none.

Jennifer of the Tulsa World, yes I agree with Eastside Rules. Use Oklahomans instead.

I'm proud to be called a native Oklahoman. I don't want Texans calling me an Okie. I think of it as akin to calling a black person the "N" work.

Obama's favorite country song must be "If The Devil Danced In Empty Pockets, He'd Have A Ball in Mine". That's how I'm gonna feel after his Administration takes away all my earnings.

After these interviews the term 'Okie' won't be derogatory. This will be a very good show to watch.

007: You are right. Must be a different thread? because I rarely agree with you. I have lived in Tulsa County my whole life and find being called an Okie a good thing. We should be proud of the talent here in 'Okie' land.

It is all about perspective. If you don't make comments personal, they don't affect you.

Will be a good special besides Dear Leader. This Okies favorite country song is Kaw-liga. Thats probably not very politically correct either.

HA! I agree Cane. Good one. Eastside...I know what Okie used to mean. It was used as a term for people who moved from here to California during the dust bowl. With Obama taking us back to the policies and ideas of FDR I think it may become a reverse trend. Lots of Californians and Easterners moving here from what I can tell. Everybody wants to be an Okie these days.

I'm not exactly sure how derogatory that term could be but I doubt that the 3 in question would be too offended by the term. They are in the country music business after all...

Eastside, where do you get your so called facts? I don't know anyone, myself included, who thinks the term "Okie" is derogatory. Only those that are not from Oklahoma find it derogatory to be called an "Okie". Even back in the Depression when people were called "Okies", they did not find it derogatory. Ever here of a song called "Okie from Muskogee"? Came out decades ago and was very, very popular.

You should really make sure you know what you're talking about before posting dude!

Oh, and Obama's favorite country song...hmmm...let's see...too many to list...

"I'm the only Hell my Momma ever raised"

Oh, and I'm sure there are a few from David Allen Coe that he listens to all the time ;)

Eastside Rules, (10/29/2009 10:57:30 AM)
Jennifer-Tulsa World, many people in Oklahoma consider "Okie" to be a derogatory name for the great people in this state and find that term very offensive.

To set the record strait my screen name has nothing to do with the location of my residence. To the rest of you naysayers you need to study up on your Oklahoma history. The term "Okie" in not a name of endearment to Oklahomans!

Eastside, some people also feel that labeling people by the segment of town they live in is offensive. To others, like you, it's a proclamation of pride. To each his own.
