George straight: The real country of George Jones

This is one great old-school country album that really cooks.

"A Collection of My Best Recollection" is a 12-track best-of roundup from country legend George Jones, and it's only available at Cracker Barrel restaurants.

Any why not? If mega rock acts such as AC/DC and the Eagles can push goods exclusively through a megastore such as Walmart and if Bob Dylan and Frank Sinatra can sell albums exclusively through the coffee superstore Starbucks, Jones can certainly offer this most savory treat via his favorite homestyle hashery. (Yes, Jones admitted in a press statement that he's "been eating there for as long as I can remember.")

Classics include "White Lightning," "I Don't Need Your Rockin' Chair" and "The Window Up Above."

It's his newest album, filled with hits spanning five decades, and even two previously unreleased gems: "I'm A Long Gone Daddy" and "I Really Don't Want to Know," produced by Buddy Cannon, who's worked with country superstars such as Kenny Chesney.

The latter is his favorite tune on the album, Jones wrote on his Web site. "They never released it because it was 'too country,' " he said. "But since Cracker Barrel's happy to satisfy the cravings of real country music fans, we're putting it on this record."

Jones joins the ranks of other country and gospel stars Montgomery Gentry, Dolly Parton, Bill Gaither, Kenny Rogers and Ricky Skaggs who have released exclusive albums through the national chain.

Jones will perform Dec. 4 at Norman's Riverwind Casino and Dec. 5 at Thackerville's WinStar Casino. For more information, visit tulsaworld.com/GeorgeJones .

I am going to have to get this. I saw George Jones a few years ago. Clearly one of the best.

He was but he doesn't sound very good now. I saw him on Huckabee a couple of weeks ago. He will go down in history as one of the best from his time.

Sadly, Elusive is right, George's voice isn't really there anymore. Glad I got to see him at ORU on a bill with Conway Twitty when ole George was sober and in fine voice. EVERYONE, from Sinatra to John Lennon has said there is the Possum and then there is everyone else.
