Rock act The Who is rumored headliner for Super Bowl XLIV

Will The Who play at the Super Bowl in 2010? Some sources say yes. Others don't deny it. Well, at least not outright. ... Musicians Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend of The Who perform at the VH1 Rock Honors in this 2008 file photo. MARK DAVIS/Associated Press file

According to reports, the Who will perform at Super Bowl XLIV in Miami in February.

If reports are confirmed, the Who would join a roster of other big-name acts with established seniority to perform, including Prince, Sir Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

A statement posted to the band's official Web site (since removed) called the concert announcement "pure speculation." Sports Illustrated contacted an NFL spokesperson, who said: "When we have something to announce, we'll announce it."

Nevertheless, Billboard online, Paste Magazine, Sports Illustrated (who broke the story) and other news outlets stand by their reports.

Frontman Roger Daltrey recently told Billboard online during a recent stop on his solo tour that he and bandmate-guitarist-composer Pete Townshend are working on new material for a followup to the Who's 2006 release, "Endless Wire." Townshend has also confirmed that he's working on a new album for The Who, Billboard reported.

i got to see them a year or so back. daltrey's voice isn't what it used to be but still pretty darn good. townshend's guitaring is just as good as ever. they had zak starkey on the drums, otherwise known as ringo starr's son

trying to think who else the NFL would make as their "safe right down the middle KMOD Classic Rock" pick for the SB halftime show....
maybe Eric Clapton, Santana?
Page and Plant should do one, too.

If you searched for thirty years to find a more boring, overrated rock act you couldn't find another more boring than the Who.

What is this? Their 40th "farewell tour".

Pete Townsend is a pedophile, they haven't had a hit in 20 years and I don't care how big they were. If you're going to do British at the Super Bowl, why not Pink Floyd? Now they could put on a show.

i think college football should adopt a playoff system, eliminate each other in january and they can play the championship game during the superbowl halftime. it's almost long enough already. they could have, like, a 12 minute puppet show at the halftime of that.

just no RAP, The Who is fine, just acts that can play in real life would be good.. REAL PLAYERS thats what makes the older band so much better than todays stuff....To much PRODUCTION, PRODUCTION, or the next 14 year old star from who knows where, couldn't play if mom & dad didn't hold there hand, and help them to the bank...

Led Zeppelin would be great but I doubt they would want them for the Superbowl.
