If anyone knows the needs of the homeless, it's musician Joesf Glaude. He was there for two years — uncertain of where he was going, yet constantly on the move, without roots.
In the early 1990s, Glaude said, "I was living in a car, I got a job working at Pizza Hut, got my act together. Pretty simple."
Glaude didn't need anyone's help to regain his footing, but a little help can go a long way to help out when you need such basics as blankets, underwear and socks.
Blankets, underwear and socks (BUS) are all it takes to get you into the annual BUS Concert at Church of the Resurrection. Glaude left a job teaching music at Oral Roberts University to work for his parish at Church of the Resurrection.
He and a few of his friends perform at 7 p.m. Saturday at the church, 4804 S. Fulton Ave.
What began as a round-robin show between Glaude and a handful of other musicians to bring the community together has now become an annual concert. Clean used or new blankets and new underwear and socks will be collected and given to the Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless. The center is always in need of such basic items for those who benefit from the center's services.
They have a special need for underwear right now, Glaude said, particularly large sizes.
"The church's primary job is helping people," Glaude said, "and I think so often we miss that. We get caught up in big buildings forgetting that church is about reaching out."
Glaude is a harp guitarist. Using jazz and classical styles, he said he plays mostly out of state. The BUS Concert is a chance for those who have followed him and those interested in hearing his musical skills to hear him locally.
"I've heard it called an eclectic mix of classical, jazz and new age," he said of his music.
This incarnation of the Joesf Glaude Group includes Marlin Bills on bass, Eastman Curtis on percussion and Franklin Birt of Rockfisch sitting in on guitar, and violinist Jim Ruggles of the Signature Symphony.

You can't just "hear" Joesf's music, you must "see" him play.
