Tulsa Sound icon Leon Russell’s
tour will light up Osage Million Dollar
Elm on April 24, tour industry tracker
Pollstar Pro reports.
The longtime Tulsa musician recently
added 29 tour dates, including
a Dec. 19 show at the Wormy Dog
Saloon in Oklahoma City’s Bricktown
district. He will also perform at the
Norman Music Festival on April 25, on
Norman’s Main Street, the site shows.
He will also perform in New York,
Tennessee, North Carolina, Arkansas,
Hawaii, Texas and more, the site
shows.
The keyboardist, guitarist and songwriter
was a pivotal figure in the bluesrock
movement known as the Tulsa
Sound and has performed, recorded
and toured with artists including J.J.
Cale, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Willie
Nelson, Glen Campbell, Jerry Lee
Lewis, Joe Cocker, George Harrison,
B.B. King, Freddie King, the Byrds and
many more.
He was also part of the studio band
for legendary music producer Phil
Spector and owned Tulsa’s Church
Studio for many years before selling it
to fellow musician and Tractors band
member Steve Ripley.
Earlier this year, Elton John let slip
on Elvis Costello’s talk show that he
had tentative plans to record with Russell
on a new album, to be produced by
T-Bone Burnett. No firm recording or
release date has been announced.
