CBS has announced the 20 castaways who will spend 39 days trying to outplay, outwit and outlast each other to become the winner of "Survivor: Samoa" and take home the $1 million prize. It premieres at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 on channel 6.

The 19th installment of the Emmy-winning reality competition series is set in the lush landscape of Samoa, islands located 2,600 miles southwest of Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean and covered with dense rainforests, volcanic mountain peaks, white sand beaches and surrounded by reefs. Bats, birds and two kinds of snake — both non-poisonous — and loads of toads inhabit the islands.

A new twist this season is that the "game" will start with an ancient Samoan tradition. Without speaking, both tribes must choose someone to become their chief and sole decision maker, according to press information.

In a recent interview, series host Jeff Probst told ign.com ( tulsaworld.com/ign) that viewers should expect "a very aggressive season from the participants and from Samoa. We lost a couple of people to evacuations and we emerged with, I think, one of the most notorious villains.

"When you think about how many years we've been on, to break into that ranking you gotta play. And this person said from day one, 'I'm coming here to tear it up and either go home early or I'm gonna be here late, but nowhere in between.' And they lived up to their word!"

No word from Probst on what caused the evacuations. The usual cause of evacuation is medical.

"mixologist" is only a real job in la-la land... in the rest of the world it's code for "loser".
