No sorcery, just shopping and live entertainment — all for many good local causes.

For a $5 ticket, shoppers can attend the annual "Magical Night of Giving," an occasion to find discounts in stores at Tulsa Promenade after the mall closes, 6:30 to 10 p.m. Nov. 15.

It's Promenade's official kickoff for the holiday season, said mall spokeswoman Kelly Wilkerson.

"It's very holiday-oriented, puts you in the holiday spirit," said Wilkerson, who hinted that shoppers will probably spy Santa Claus that evening.

You'll also see plenty of discounts, she said. Dillard's, for instance, will offer 25 percent off merchandise that has already been reduced. Every store will offer something, like Eskimo Joes and Gap, both of which will offer 25 percent off regular-priced items.

Shoppers can also listen to live entertainment from a variety of local talent, as well as have a chance to win mall gift cards, which will be given away every 30 minutes, Wilkerson said.

Holiday spirit is most evident, perhaps, in that it gives local nonprofits the chance to raise money, she said, as 100 percent of proceeds from the $5 tickets go directly to the agencies that are selling them — about 75 organizations when we spoke to Wilkerson.

"This is a way we can give back to the community," Wilkerson said — an excellent way of hitting a broad spectrum of organizations in the area with one big, fun event.

One of those nonprofits is Tulsa Habitat for Humanity, which is
selling tickets to raise funds for its new Youth United program, said volunteer director Jamie Cox.

Not only is "Magical Night of Giving" a great way for shoppers to avoid big holiday crowds, she said, it's a wonderful opportunity to help Youth United get off the ground.

Run by youth and for youth ages 5 to 25, Youth United brings young people together from all walks of life to play active roles in transforming their communities, according to the national Habitat for Humanity's national Web site. It also mobilizes young people to sponsor and build a house with their local Habitat affiliate.

"It will teach them everything from leadership skills and advocacy to fundraising," Cox said.

Nonprofits interested in selling tickets to raise money should call Promenade at 627-9282. You can contact them up until the week of the event, Wilkerson said.

Tickets are available either through the individual nonprofits or at the guest services desk at Promenade. You can also purchase tickets at the door that evening.
