FITNESS GUINEA PIG SAYS

If she could Zumba every day, FGP would. Because that's how fun Zumba is. The Latin dance-based workout is one of the few in which you see people smile most of the time. But FGP can't drag many of her friends to Zumba, because they claim to have no dance skills. And no matter how much FGP tells people they don't have to be a dancer to try Zumba, they won't listen.

Apparently, the idea of dancing in public or in an aerobics class makes some people think they're going to end up in the middle of a circle with people pointing jazz hands at them, laughing. So if you can only dance when no one is watching, these "Dance Off the Inches" DVDs are not a bad choice.

The workouts are short, fairly easy
to follow — and if you do them often enough, maybe your body will start to look more like those phenomenally fit babes on "Dancing With the Stars." Better yet, maybe you'll gain enough confidence to dance in public.

Is there a workout or exercise you want the Fitness Guinea Pig to try first? Send suggestions to cary.aspinwall@tulsaworld.com or call 581-8477.

Hey Cary, a good side-bar to this story might be the latest report on the health of America.

Once again, Oklahoma finds itself on the bottom 10 states.

Here's a few clips from the Reuters report:

"The overall health of Americans remained static for a fourth year, according to an annual report issued on Wednesday assessing a series of measures also including binge drinking, health insurance coverage, air pollution, infectious disease rates, crime levels and immunization coverage."

and...

"Rounding out the bottom 10 were South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Florida, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Nevada and Georgia."

Terrorists?
Who needs to worry about terrorists when we're killing ourselves!
