It's the last week of October, a.k.a. National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. But events and products are still available that not only promote awareness but benefit survivors, as well.

Pampering survivors

GreatSkin Spa , 2442 E. 21st St., will host its "Pretty in Pink" event for breast cancer survivors 5-8 p.m. Thursday.

During this time, survivors can enjoy complimentary makeup applications and eyebrow waxings, said spa director Page Walthall. Just sit back, enjoy the services, chat with fellow survivors, and nibble on hors d'oeuvres.

All survivors who attend will receive a free gift from Glo Minerals, as well as door prizes.

The event is free and open to the public, but services are offered on a first-come, first served basis.

Call GreatSkin, 587-4567.

The youngest survivors

Breast cancer is not a "mature" disease. That's why the Young Survival Coalition is committed to research and advocacy for this group of underserved cancer patients.

And that's why Cinda B handbags is donating 15 percent of retail sales in October from the sale of any of its styles in "Sweetleaf Pink" to the YSC.

Locally, you can find some of the styles in "Sweetleaf Pink" at Nicole's Unique Gifts , 125 N. Main St., in Eufaula. When we called the store, owner Kim Franklin said she had a few handbags, checkbook covers, wallets, key chains, eyeglass holders and a few other items in "Sweetleaf Pink." Prices range from $17 to $79.

Call Nicole's, 689-5043.

If
the bra fits, wear it

The lingerie department at Dillard's Woodland Hills will host its Fi(gh)t for a Cure event 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday. Dillard's is pairing up with bra manufacturer Wacoal, who will donate $2 for every bra fitting done during this time to Susan G. Komen Foundation, said the store's lingerie manager, Shannon McNamara. The store will donate another $2 for every Wacoal bra a customer purchases.

Eight out of 10 women wear the wrong-sized bra. Dillard's has certified fitters who would love to help correct that issue. "It's amazing to see how life-changing a half hour in a fitting room can be," McNamara said.

Appointments aren't necessary, she said, but Dillard's will be able to reserve free gifts for those who reserve a spot in advance. To book your appointment, call Dillard's, 252-1890, ext. 5200.
