Metal manliness

Progressive metal act Mastodon is full of meaty, hot-blooded manliness, much like the other bands on Saturday night's bill at the Brady Theater, 105 W. Brady St.: Converge, High on Fire and Dethklok. Doors open 6 p.m. All ages. Tickets are $29.50 and $39.50, plus fees. For more information, visit tulsaworld.com/Brady.

Moore at Cain's

Ian Moore & the Lossy Coils return to the historic Cain's Ballroom for another down-home show. And Moore isn't at all intimidated by Tulsa's rich musical history, especially the Tulsa Sound.

"We love JJ Cale and Larry Clark. We love playing in the shadows of that tradition," he said in an interview with the Tulsa World this year before his Dfest headliner slot.

The Televised will open the show. Doors open 7 p.m. Saturday; showtime 8 p.m. All ages. Bob's Side Stage at Cain's Ballroom, 423 N. Main St. For more information and for ticket costs, visit tulsaworld.com/Cains.

Amphibian evening

Tulsa Repertory Musicals brings back one of its favorite stories. "A Year With Frog and Toad" plays at 3 p.m. Saturday at Tulsa Little Theatre, 1511 S. Delaware Ave. Actors play the roles of cheerful Frog and worrywart Toad as the amphibians fill their days with activities. Tickets are $10 and are available by calling 744-7340.

It's the 'Twilight' hour

Are you Team Edward or Team Jacob? Declare your love for your favorite "Twilight" hero from 6 to 7:30
p.m. Monday at the "Twilight Tee Party" at Reed Community Center, 4233 S. Yukon Ave. Cost is $6 for youths ages 11 to 18.

Bring a plain black T-shirt, and you can decorate it with provided craft supplies. Registration deadline is Saturday. For more, call 591-4307.

A real basket case

Natalie Linn, one of the nation's premier experts on American Indian basketry and an appraiser on "Antiques Roadshow," will talk and conduct appraisals at an event 2 p.m. Saturday at Gilcrease Museum, 1400 N. Gilcrease Museum Road. For more, call 596-2700.

Next Springsteen?

When Joe Satriani calls you amazing, you know you're playing a pretty mean guitar. Stillwater-born Ladd Smith plays one, and sings, too. Joe Melson, who co-wrote with Roy Orbison, called Smith "the next generation's Bruce Springsteen."

See for yourself. Ladd Smith plays two shows this weekend in our area. Saturday, he's at Tidal School Vineyards in Drumright, playing 6-9 p.m. Get there at 5:30 if you want dinner. Call (866) 258-1903 for details.

Smith comes to Tulsa on Sunday, also 6-9 p.m., at Bodean Seafood, 3323 E. 51st St. Call 743-3861 for more.
