Have a safe holiday

Want to learn to have a safer holiday? The criminal justice studies program at Vatterott College will host an open house event from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday to show you how.

Topics include safeguarding your home while away on holiday travel and personal safety in parking lots and malls during the holiday season.

A natural history of bats

William Caire, professor of biology of the University of Central Oklahoma will talk "Bats of Oklahoma," a lecture beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Tulsa Garden Center, 2435 S. Peoria Ave.

Director of the UCO's Selman Living Laboratory, Caire will discuss the natural history and ecology of bats and problems the species is now encountering. Admission to this Tulsa Audubon Society event is free. For more, call 746-5125 or go to tulsaworld.com/audubon.

Violence in the family

Families and Communities Empowered by Safety will present a panel discussion on family violence from 10-11:50 a.m. Tuesday at Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St.

There are all kinds of story times, some are for easing a child into nighttime. Others, though, are spoken in another tongue entirely to weave tales of faraway lands.
