RIP Tulsa music guru Jordan Hiteshew
9/3/2010 12:10:00 PM
RIP, friend. From left, Matt Lip, Jordan Hiteshew, myself, GK Hizer and Davit Souters enjoy a lunch at El Guapo's in downtown Tulsa in 2008. |
I'm really too speechless to say much of anything.
Tulsa native Jordan Hiteshew (aka Maximus) died yesterday from injuries sustained in a skateboarding accident in Broken Arrow.
He was a co-founder of the long-running Tulsa Music Pulse podcast and website and gave all the oldster Tulsa music makers a run for their money.
Hiteshew also was principal web designer for his company, Spiffco Web Designs, founded in 1998. He hosted sites for a roster of local music acts and businesses, including My Solstice, Oklahoma Performing Arts, FridgeBuzz, Johnny Reliable, hotrodbob, Pinkeye, The Cave, Weeping Tree and more.
He also was president and owner of Vigilant Records until 2008. He helped release albums for upstart young artists including Shutdown, Sequence, Go!, River City Ransom and Wreckless Process.
He was 26.
I spent many an hour talking shop with this guy, inside and outside of his TMP studio. He did a lot to help unify the music scene here. Rest in peace, Jordan. You are already missed.
UPDATE (11 p.m. Friday): Jordan Hiteshew's services: Jordan Hiteshew visitation will be 1-9 p.m Sunday at Floral Haven, 6500 S. 129th East Ave., in Broken Arrow. Family will be there 1-3 p.m.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 7) at Liberty Church, 7777 S. Garnett Road, in Broken Arrow.
(Confirmed via message from Jesse Hiteshew.) Jesse said everyone is welcome.
UPDATE (7 p.m. Saturday): In lieu of flowers the family is asking help to offset the funeral expenses. The account is Renee Hiteshew, attn: The Jordan Hiteshew Memorial Fund at Bank of Oklahoma. Please call 918-588-6000 to help with the transfer or go to any Bank of Oklahoma. Services will be in Broken Arrow and in Windber, Pennsylvania where he will be buried. Thanks. Renee Hiteshew
ALSO: Tulsa punk pioneer Stephen Egerton and his friends at Armstrong Recording Studio said they're working on a memorial concert for him. I'll keep you posted.
