WASHINGTON -- President Bush has issued an emergency declaration for Oklahoma, making federal aid available to help the state recover from winter storms, the White House announced Tuesday.
According to that announcement, the presidential declaration was made on Monday.
Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator David Paulison said Bush's action authorizes his agency to coordinate disaster relief efforts and provide assistance to local agencies.
The federal government will reimburse local governmental agencies for 75 percent of their costs for certain costs associated with debris removal.
A FEMA fact sheet explained that initial aid is limited to $5 million, and if that limit is exceeded, the president issues a report to Congress before approving further federal aid.
