Police arrested a man Tuesday on a first-degree murder complaint after he allegedly threw a toddler across a room, killing the child.
Larry Neeley, 35, was arrested after a forensic report indicated 20-month-old Jason Hall died from blunt force trauma to his abdomen, Tulsa Police Officer Jason Willingham said.
The child’s mother, who was Neeley’s girlfriend, left the boy with Neeley for about an hour early Tuesday morning at the 6300 block of East 26th Place North.
Neeley told police Hall was misbehaving when he threw him into a piece of furniture, Willingham said.
The boy was climbing on a bunk bed when Neeley pulled the boy down by the arm, slammed him into a nearby dresser and then onto the ground, according to a police report.
The injuries ruptured Hall’s liver, the report states.
Neeley then called for help, saying the child had stopped breathing.
“I guess he just had all he could handle for some reason and snapped,” Willingham said.
Paramedics performed CPR on the child, who was taken to St. Francis Hospital about 9 a.m. and pronounced dead.
Detectives questioned Neeley for most of Tuesday afternoon and booked him into the Tulsa Jail around 9 p.m. He is being held without bond.
