Four organizations recently hosted a Celebrating Tulsa Women luncheon at the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa Schusterman Center. OU-Tulsa, Tulsa Community Foundation, Tulsa Area United Way and the OU Women's Philanthropy Network teamed to provide an opportunity for those at the event to learn more about the importance of giving time, talent or treasure to the community.
OU-Tulsa President Gerry Clancy welcomed the crowd and recognized and thanked Phil Lakin from the Tulsa Community Foundation, Mark Graham from the Tulsa Area United Way and Tripp Hall from OU for their support.
Lynn Schusterman spoke about the importance of philanthropy and discussed how her parents instilled in her the importance of giving to others. She and her late husband, Charles, carried on that tradition, and she now works to pass along that same philosophy to her family and the community through her work as the chairwoman of the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation.
Brenda Lloyd-Jones, Ph.D., associate chair and associate professor of human relations at OU-Tulsa, gave the keynote address. She defined philanthropy from many different viewpoints and provided some examples of famous women philanthropists throughout history.
Following lunch, a panel of local women discussed philanthropy and how and why they give back to our community. Moderated by Alison Anthony, panelists included Kathy Craft, Becky Frank, Shea Roach, Paige Cole and Esmeralda Vega.
