Road games against Big 12 Conference competition highlight a tough Oral Roberts men's basketball schedule.

The Golden Eagles will play at Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Missouri this season, as well as make a visit to Utah and play Miami (Fla.) in a Las Vegas event before entering Summit League play.

"We have had challenging schedules for the past five years," said ORU coach Scott Sutton, who is entering his 12th season as coach. "It helps us in a lot of different ways. It helps your team get prepared for league play. It gets them prepared if you are fortunate enough to play in postseason in the NCAA Tournament or the NIT.

"It also helps in recruiting. Kids want to play against elite programs, and we played against some of the best in the past five or six years."

The Texas Tech series is a home-and-home contract. The Red Raiders will return the trip next season. Oklahoma and Missouri signed two-for-one deals that will allow or have allowed for appearances in the Mabee Center at least once.

"You have to give credit to those coaches, Jeff Capel, Pat Knight and Mike Anderson," Sutton said. "Very few are willing to go and play 'so-called' mid-major teams, especially in home-and-home series … for teams like that to come to the Mabee Center, it's a huge deal for us."

ORU will open with an exhibition game against an opponent to be named on Nov. 2. The regular season starts with a Nov. 12 road game at Missouri State followed by an 11 a.m. meeting at Tulsa on Nov. 16.

The Mayor's Cup contest will be nationally televised during ESPN's 24 hours of basketball.

Nonconference home games will be against Indiana State (Nov. 20), UALR (Nov. 24) and the ESPN Bracketbuster game against an opponent to be named (Feb. 19).

The Eagles begin Summit League action with a Dec. 2 road game at Western Illinois. The league tournament will be March 5-8 at Sioux Falls, S.D.
