Online nominations are being accepted for entrepreneurs of all kinds across the metropolitan area for the third annual Tulsey Awards.

Past winners and possible candidates for this year's awards gathered Wednesday evening at The Max Retropub to kick off the 2010 Tulsey Award nominations.

Residents may nominate entrepreneurs for a Tulsey Award in 10 categories: civic, emerging, entertainment, franchise/license, green, interactive, legend, serial, young and restaurateur.

Nominations will be accepted through Oct. 6. Online voting for nominees begins Oct. 13 and ends at midnight Nov. 3.

Winners will be announced Nov. 18, during Global Entrepreneurship Week, at the Cain's Ballroom. Winners will receive hand-cast bronze Golden Driller statuettes.

Sean Griffin, the founder of the competition, said it has been modified this year to focus on the metro region instead of just Tulsa proper.

"One of the things that continues to be a discussion in economic development meetings I'm in and strategy sessions is how do we become more inclusive and more regional. We're hoping the Tulseys can be a spark - a catalyst - to bring together a more regional perspective," Griffin said.

He anticipates that the votes in the 2010 contest will exceed last year's total of thousands of votes for more than 90 Tulsey nominees.

People can vote more than once for their favorite entrepreneur, but "robo voting" - continuous, automated votes - won't be permitted, he said.

All of the nominees will automatically be entered into the Entrepreneur of the Year category.

The host of the kickoff party was Blake Ewing, who owns The Max Retropub and Joe Momma's Pizza. He was last year's Tulsey Award Entrepreneur of the Year.
