The perfect trip. The perfect trap. That's the set-up for "The Tourist," a new thriller starring two of the world's biggest movie stars, Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. Their movie opens Friday in Tulsa.

Depp plays Frank, an American tourist who travels to Europe in search of solace for his broken heart. Amid the beauty of Venice and Paris, his flirtation with a stunning woman, Elise (Jolie), leads him into a dark mystery. A fast-paced romance quickly becomes a game of cat-and-mouse danger.

During recent interviews, Depp and Jolie spoke about Frank and Elise, each other, and the joys of an old-fashioned suspense film.

Depp on Frank

He's definitely an everyman, who is approached by this enchantress, this unbelievably beautiful, interesting, cultured vixen, and he's taken on the ride of his life. Then (it's a matter of) "What would you do? How much danger would you allow yourself to be in for the possibility of whatever poetry might commence between you and this woman?"

Depp on Jolie

She's kind of a walking poem, Angelina, this perfect beauty, but very smart, very clever, very funny, and with a very perverse sense of humor. She's great fun.

Depp on 'The Tourist'

(It's) an hour and 40 minutes of escape. It's kind of an interesting story in that it's a throwback to old-school thrillers, but with this contemporary take on it. I hope people are entertained. They get a good look at Venice, that's for sure.

Jolie on Elise

Someone's being followed by the police, and it turns out to be this woman in Paris, and who she is is something of a mystery that unfolds during the film. She's one of those women who lives in a world of quiet luxury and elegance.

Jolie on Depp

Johnny has always played unique characters, and in every film he's done he's always likable, and that fun and likability always comes across. But in this he's more of a traditional leading man, and he's bringing that kind of charm to it.

Jolie on 'The Tourist'

It has a wonderful sense of fun, and it's light, and it should make people feel good. It's got wonderful twists and turns and good action and romance. (It's got) all of those things in a film that is delightful and pleasing to watch.
