Oklahoma again made the top 100 lists in worldwide ticket sales, according to numbers recently released by industry tracker Pollstar Pro.
Nationally, Tulsa's BOK Center also made it to No. 10 in ticket sales in 2010, according to Pollstar Pro, with 360,871 tickets sold.
The venue ranks No. 23 in worldwide arena ticket sales, with the Oklahoma City Arena at No. 96 on that chart, with 124,766 tickets sold. In 2009, the venue ranked No. 8 nationally and No. 20 worldwide in arena ticket sales.
"We are very grateful for the continued success after 2 1/2 years," said John Bolton, BOK Center general manager, in an e-mail to the Tulsa World.
"The support and interest in the building from Tulsa and surrounding communities is remarkable."
The concert that had the most tickets sold was George Strait and Reba McEntire on Feb. 20, 2010 - 17,931 tickets were sold.
Carrie Underwood (Checotah), Kings of Leon (Oklahoma City), Rascal Flatts (Picher) and other musicians with Oklahoma ties broke into the Top 100 in concert ticket sales. Cain's Ballroom, Oklahoma City Zoo Amphitheater, Oklahoma promoters DCF Concerts and more also cracked the worldwide Top 100 charts, too.
And, while the Sooner State remains strong on ticket sales, the national outlook isn't as bright, Pollstar Pro reported. The magazine estimated that overall ticket revenue for major North American concerts fell to $4.25 billion from 2009's record of $4.6 billion.
It's the first time since 1995 that concert industry ticket sales have declined. Still, the 2010 figure is sharply above 2000, when the industry hit $1.7 billion in ticket sales.
Ticket prices have also risen dramatically, the site's report shows. Average ticket price 10 years ago was around $40. Today, it's closer to $63, down about $6 each on average from a high in 2008.
