Carrie Underwood is no longer just a vegetarian - the singer said this week that she is vegan.

The longtime vegetarian and Checotah native said on Australian TV talk show "The Circle" that she had recently ditched dairy.

"I grew up on a farm, and once I learned why we had a farm, that was that," she said of her ban on red meat when she was 13.

"And living in Oklahoma it was almost impossible to be vegetarian, so when I moved away, I was about 21, when I became a vegetarian," she told the show's hosts.

"I recently made the switch to vegan because I'm actually kind of lactose intolerant."

Underwood made her way to Australia earlier in the week to promote the extended version of her third album, "Play On."

"American Idol's" highest-paid entertainer told The Australian newspaper that she would like to tour "down under" one day.

"I would love to tour here. This is the first step."
